Album : Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band – Against The Wind

I’ve been a Seger fan for a long time. Back to the Bob Seger System and songs like Ramblin’ Gamblin’ Man then into Get Out Of Denver, Katmandu into his great live album “Live Bullet’ then his ‘Night Moves’ album. I could have featured any of that stuff (and will and have) but I’m doing this record because it just hit me on how much I liked it.

I won’t make this long folks. Bob writes really good songs. I love his lyrics , they always conjure up so many images. He has a great rock voice. I put him in with Morrison (Listen to Shinin’ Brightly. What a feel good song this is), Springsteen, Fogerty. If he runs out of words he has no problem filling things in with some groans and wails. He feels his music.

I listened to this album a lot. Real good mix. Good up-tempo cuts like ‘Horizontal Bop’, ‘Betty Lou’s Gettin Out Tonight’, ‘Long Twin Silver Line’. Every stripper had to have ‘Strut’ on her show music (Not that CB would know anything about that). But it’s the slower tempo ones that really move me. ‘You’ll Accompany Me’, ‘Fire Lake’ and the title track. They all have that ‘Night Moves’ vibe. Bob has a kind of talk/sing style.

He has a lot of elements I like about rock n roll. Seger is a rocker. Old school. Hey he’s from the Detroit area and they know how to rock n roll there. Oh yeah, the Silver Bullet Band cook. I just recently dusted this one off and gave it a listen. Sounds just as good as I remember it. Some places better. Good music with a bunch of real good songs.
