A trucker pulls over on a lonely stretch of road to check his load and stumbles onto a young girl’s dead body. One of the local police detectives takes the call and starts his investigation into the murdered aboriginal girl. The detective, also aboriginal gets no cooperation from his fellow law officers or from the locals on both sides of the cultural line. We ride with him as he tries to solve the crime amidst the prejudices and his damaged past.
A great Australian Indie that tells a good story against a beautiful background. Ivan Sen directs the film and uses everything at his finger tips to make a good flick. CB likes films with good unfamiliar actors. Aaron Pederson as the lead is one of those and he is perfect. Lots of good performances sprinkled throughout. No false moves in this modern day western. I’m a sucker for this style of film. This one delivers.
Get caught in the middle with our hero and see what you think. CB liked it.
Sounds like a real winner. A couple of other Aussie movies popped into my mind. Walkabout. My Brilluant Career.
See ya!

No new ground as far as plot but the performances are truthful and the sense of time and place takes you away to that part of the world. I got caught up in the lead character’s journey.

Forgot to add that Walkabout is a gem (A take coming up down the road). Haven’t seen ‘Career’ but have seen many really good Australian films.

Where does CB find these one wonders? Sounds interesting. Gallipoli is another good Aussie flick.

Gallipoli is a really good flick. Put Breaker Morant in there. CB will be doing takes on both of them. You got me on The Last Wave. Now I will have to check it out. Too many good Aussie films to name Doc.
Same as music, we just have to look under and past the stuff that’s pushed at us.

Surprises me you don’t know The Last Wave. Fairly big hit at the time, Peter Weir film, same guy that did Gallipoli, Witness, Year of Living Dangerously.

I was familiar with the film and with Weir just never caught it. Slipped through the cracks. Never to late.

And The Last Wave. Boy, I haven’t thought about that one in a long, long time.

I’m gonna add this to the list… new one to me, but, if CB recommends, I’m gonna check it out.

“CB has spoken his mind”. Say that in a real deep ominous voice. All my bullshit aside J I think you would dig the flick.

“When CB speaks we listen”. This definitely sounds like the kinda flick I’d dig and I had a wee look for it… likely a wee online shop required.

Saw this very recently CB. Brilliant because bleak and grimly truthful. Regards Thom.
