Probably the first rock n roll song Babyhead ever heard thanks to his older sister.
The Beatles could rock, they weren’t faking it on this one. John Lennon sings the hell out of it. Just an all out rocker. Set the seed. Still like this bare bones, no frills rock n roll. This kind of early listening experience hooked CB into a life long love of rock music.
Lots of great versions of this song but i still feel a pull towards this one. Loved a lot of this early Beatles’ stuff.
Thanks Sis even though you looked goofy in your Beatles hat and twist shoes.
I did a trivia blog about this tune recently, CB. Lennon’s throat was like sandpaper for weeks afterwards. He (for some reason) took his shirt off to sing it. And then gargled with milk.

Cool. I’ll check it out. I loved the stuff the Beatles did at this time. ‘Money’ ‘Bad Boy’ ‘Baby Its You’. All the Chuck Berry stuff. I know they’re covers but they were playing these live and had them down. Lennon just cooked on them, so did the band. (I seen John naked and it just didn’t do it for me)

A great reminder of when the Beatles rocked righteously. It’s a toss up between this and the single version of ‘Revolution’ for me.

Yeah, they cut their teeth playing rock n roll and I always dug that side of them the best.

I work in Liverpool and a friend’s mother used to watch them play lunchtime gigs at the Cavern! Can you imagine?!

How cool is that! I love first hand stories like those. I’d be picking her brain. Like your parents seeing Syd with Floyd. I would guess they seen some great bands back then. No wonder you’re a music guy. Ever been to Muswell Hill? I’m a Kinks guy.

No I haven’t BUT my godmother taught with Ray Davies’ wife for a year or two in London, said she was lovely. Does that count?

I like both songs. But if the choice is between those two, I’m going with Revolution every time. Twist and Shout is more anthemic but Revolution is just a ballsier song.

Where’d you come from? You’re supposed to be working on an ELO piece but welcome. Jim, can you remember the first Beatle song you heard?

Actually it’s ELP which is a completely different band. 😂 Workin’ on that piece. Quality takes time. First Fab Four song? I’m gonna say I Want to Hold Your Hand. That sentiment sounds quaint today, eh?

ELP, my mistake. Even though that other band has Beatles influences. I’m not up on my Beatles timelines but I’m guessing they charted with covers first then started doing ‘Hold Your Hand’ and other originals.

I know. Apparently she knew them well enough to say hello to but my mate can’t believe she never got them to sign something for her!

Yeah I’ve seen “Backbeat.” Good flick. More about Lennon than the other guys. Also, see “Nowhere Boy. “
