Music Single: Deep Purple – Lazy

Without a doubt my favorite Purple tune and just one of my favorite tunes period. My buddy had the album Machine Head. The album had some popular cuts on it. When I was at his house I would have to bribe him to play Lazy (he was stuck on Smoke On The Water and Highway Star. He was a car nut). He had a really good stereo system and he would crank this up for CB and I would soak it up. It’s a great tune.

John Lord’s organ sets it up (His solo would work in CB’s favorite Solos). You know something good is coming. It starts out a little funeral dirges (is that a word?) then he changes pace and gets into the groove and the song takes off. The rest of the boys come in, a little percussion, a touch of guitar, then Blackmore (Killer solo) kicks in. We are off and kicking. I would have been happy without lyrics on this because the groove is so good. They just keep the jam going. Ian finally pipes in and the lyrics don’t fuck it up, in fact they are perfect. Add a little harp and what we have hear is a “perfect track” (I heard someone named Young say that)

A CB theme song. Being a lover of rock n roll (music period) I could not resist this one if I tried.

When my buddy and I were on the outs and were ready to bury the hatchet he’d look at me with an illegal smile and say “Hey CB, you wanna listen to Lazy on the HI FI?”. CB was happy again.
