Music Single : Ronnie Lane – Kuschty Rye

If there was ever a song that made me feel good it’s this one. After I really got into Lane’s work with Rough Mix (with Pete Townsend) I went on an all out search for everything Ronnie. There was the obvious Small Faces/Faces stuff but there was a whole bunch of solo work and this is where I found this fantastic cut.

This tune just makes me want to get up and move and celebrate being alive. That accordion just sends me into another place. CBs place here is all about music that moves me. Kuschty Rye does that big time, my feet and my soul. You can tell the band is having a good time and it rubs off on the listener. A special song when you just feel so damn good when you hear it.

This song never fails to deliver for me. We all have these kinds of songs. This is one for me. Lane is a CB favorite. What a great piece of music. Ronnie’s vocals are so easy and natural. He just sings what he’s feeling and he’s feeling Kuschty Rye. Come on everybody get up with me and have a group dance like a big old bunch of happy folks. Ron would have loved it.

A mission to discover all of Ronnie Lane’s work is a very valid mission.

Never heard this one. Catchy, unexpected sound from Lane. I have to give CB credit. I’ll hear a song or album by somebody and unless I hear something else, I don’t spend much more time on them. But CB tracks them down and finds the deep cuts. This sounds like a tune Springsteen could have fun covering.

Didnt take much tracking Doc after Rough Mix this was a just an extension of that record. Yeah I could hear the Boss doing it for sure. Im sure the internet has a few covers of this. I know Townsend did it at a benefit. I think.

The Bruce always finds a way to throw an accordion in there. He did that in his early albums, then abandoned it, then brought it back. Do you know Ronnie’s song ‘Debris’ about his old man? Always liked that one.

Federici would add that great touch. I did ‘Debris’ way back and you probably commented on it. Another Ronnie song that gets me. Rough Mix has a few of great touches.

From what I’ve read about him, he was a heck of a guy. Lots of friends. Full of energy. People couldn’t keep up with him.

No kidding. I was sent on a Joe Perry listen and found a version of ‘Vigilante Man’ by him. Killer. I know you’re into that genre. Idea for some new takes came from that one.

Great song, CB – and yet another tune I had never heard. Love the accordion, which gives the song a lot of warmth. Reminds me a bit of John Mellencamp.

In any case, isn’t it just amazing what certain songs can do? You hear and feel happy!

So many hidden gems out there. And yes the Mellencamp comparison is right on. Ronne Lane has this thing where he feels like an old friend similar to John Prine.

A great tune, and love that steady bass. And the accordion, of course. It’s a simple song, but feels like a warm overcoat on a chilly day. Ronnie is one of those artists who never got his due, either with the Small Faces, Faces, or as a solo artist. I also read somewhere that he deserved writing credit for Rod Stewart’s song “Mandolin Wind.”

As we have talked about before…his music is again…that word…real. It’s very loose and flowing. I found that documentary on him on youtube around 4-5 years ago and discovered his other stuff and not just the Small Faces/Faces. Excellent song.

A nice song. Ronnie Lane’s voice is pleasantly relaxed and effortless. I also like his albums with Slim Chance.

Ronnie is good who ever he plays with. Slim Chance were top notch. This song caught that “relaxed and effortless” style he had.

This is lovely. I didn’t really like Ogdens’ Nut Gone Flake, but I should probably give them another chance.

So much other music Aph. Im pretty sure that you’d find a lot of good stuff. Id say they were worth another chance. Sometimes I find folks hang laurels on certain albums and dot go beyond that. Music is such a cool world of discovery.
