1537 Gets CB Evil

CB was quite happy cruising along listening to the music he had accumulated over the years. Then this little yellow guy comes along and says ‘”CB here’s some new music for ya (said with a Tom Jones accent)”. I says “I dont need anymore new music, I’m happy listening to the stuff I have”. He says “Come on CB old bean you gotta lighten up a little”. Well I took his advise and did just that and this is the kind of music that little yellow bugger turned me onto.

The two bands below are just a sample of the great new music I’ve picked up at 1537. We have lots of common ground on other music but he has plugged me into some great stuff that is now played regularly at my pad. Clutch and Fu Manchu rock hard and they both move some kind of bone in my anatomy. And my gal Natalie. Man do I ever like this stuff. Plus they dress like CB.

See if you can pick out the clever connection on the two (3 now. I added an old standard) songs below. I love this music and it tells me I’m still not in the boneyard yet. Press play and stand back “Someone might get hurt”

(Anyone have an idea who did the Devil artwork?)

Not sure who 1537 is but that’s some good jams for the middle of the night, which is now. I love the way Howlin Wolf sings “Evil”

Lisa. if you see a little yellow Lego guy and the number 1537 on any comments on CB takes. click it and thats !537, He is a cool dude with an interesting slant plus he has more varied tastes in music than Baskin Robins has flavors of ice cream. Plus he has a sense of ha ha. Ive been on a Clutch binge for the last 3 months.

I will remember that, CB. Hey, I watched a really good video the other night called, “Lightning in a Bottle” made in 2004, which was a blues legends concert with so many greats, including Buddy Guy on a few songs and also some interview with him and archival photos. I think he said he got his start with Howlin’ Wolf (iirc!) and there was a picture of him as a young man with Wolf. I know you would love this video and have probably already seen it.

I havent seen that one but Im jotting it down now for a future watch Thanks. I never get tired of good music docs. especially blues ones. Yeah Wolf , Muddy, Hopkins were all big influences on Buddy. I think Hopkins was the only one he didnt paly with. Could be wrong on that. Guy is one of the last living connections to that music. We are lucky that we have so many recording. So many undiscovered gems to hear.

Smashing good, CB, you’re bloody well right you are! Liked the old guys of Clutch but Fu Manchu was my favourite! Reminds me of hardcore punk mixed with some heavy metal but without the virtuosity of the heavy metal guitars. A nice change that has reminded me of…(check out my post of Sunday’s Oldies). Cheers mate and all the best!

I like the no pretense or flash and dash just good old strap on the guitars and lets go. 1537 said I can rock out with these guys until Im way into my 80’s. We can still get our blood going with this stuff Francisco. Says something that we dig this. You the man.
Dont worry. Ill be over. You are a regular stop plus you have me curious.

Straight goods. No wonder you relate to all us Canucks. Same blood lines here. My folks moved out farther west to take advantage of cheap land and and the mild Canadian prairie winters just to add a little extra to the adventure. Where I got my love of music (and taste for a few beverages ). They all played instruments. Well.

Wow, that guy – sounds like a real prince amongst men.

Thank you very much for your kind words CB. Turning other folks onto the music I like and getting traffic back the other way has been my biggest kick since I was about 14 (well, the biggest kick I’m willing to disclose anyway).

Stoner rock has been my flavour since I stumbled across it with Monster Magnet at the end of the last century. I think because there’s a real deep love of all the rock forefathers in there but also a knowledge of how simultaneously ridiculous and joyous this rock thing is too. When I bought ‘Powertrip’ by MM and ‘King Of The Road’ by Fu Manchu, I just felt ‘I’m home’; still do.

PS: Sadly I don’t have a Welsh accent at all, despite being able to speak the language. I was born, to my shame, in England and I’ve lived out of Wales for 31 years now. So you’re not going to confuse me with Tom Jones anytime soon.

Your opening sentence is so 1537. These choices have sent me off on a trail of stuff that just suits me. Nebula has also been getting lots of time. I hook in and stay for a while. No forced listening, just appeals.
Very cool that you can speak the lingo. Hang onto that one.. Later and thanks again for the nudges and the good reads.

What an evil post, CB! 🙂

I guess Howlin’ Wolf is my favorite evil in the mix. The guitar work on that Clutch tune reminds me a bit of Led Zeppelin. And that’s never a bad thing!

They have a few ZZ Top licks in their mix. I just like the bare bones hard rock vibe. They have a very strong following from what I can gather. Good to see that this kind of music still gets a hard core following.
      The Wolf cut is killer.

You have a memory Books. I got a FP compilation years ago but concentrated on some of the other artists. You brought them more into focus. There are a few more bands to. Mr Books will be getting his due when I decide to shake up my boring shit and give a nod to the real guys and gals on this journey.
