Single: Not Fade Away – Buddy Holly

download (22)

Right away the beat gets ya.

“I’m gonna tell you how it’s gonna be..you’re gonna give your love to me..”

One of the best songs ever. So many musicians I like cover it and do it live. I’ve seen Joe Ely ( Fellow Lubbock citizen like Buddy) several times and he says ” He never does a show without playing a Buddy Holly song”. He kills this one in concert.

“My loves bigger than a Cadillac..”

Man what a song.  Cincinnati Babyhead just loves it and loves it some more. Babyhead jumps up when he hears this one and starts to move.

Buddy Holly is the man.  What a treasure.  Staple for CB.  He’s heard it a million times and intends to listen to it another million.

“You know my love not fade away..”

(Another cut contributed to hanspostcard and his singles project.)

Do you know how long it will take you to listen to it 2 million times?

I don’t know If I told u this CB but my Dad is a huge Holly fan from the 50s and when Buddy died in that plane crash my Dad gave up on rock n roll shortly after. He told me his heart wasn’t into it anymore and he moved on…
Whenever I see a Buddy post I can still hear my Dad telling me this lol…

I dont think you did, might have. If so we probably discussed John Milner’s quote in American Graffiti.
What a cool thing to have in your memories.

He would have written so many more great songs had his life not been cut short. He was just getting started.

A justifiable classic, CB, by the man we named our daughter (Holly) after. I have a few live Dead versions that take this song to the stratosphere.

There are a few, but the version I’m thinking of is Cornell Univ. 5-8-77. The entire second set smokes, and NFA is a centerpiece.

Loved that song but had only heard it by the Rolling Stones. Good choice CB! Cheers and all the best!

Fantastic pick, CB, love it. Buddy Holly was such a talented songwriter. And incredibly productive in his short recording career!

Buddy Holly is one of all time greatest. So young and brilliant — what a loss.

You know, some years ago I wouldn’t have said this but: you’re playing a song right up my alley here, CB.
I think I deliberately tuned out Buddy thanks to Buddy’s Song and having to read (and watch) the bastard thing at school and an insipid cover of Heartbeat being used as a theme for a similarly insipid tv show…. but, shit, what an artist and trail he blazed – I get a real kick out of the drums at the start of Peggy Sue and for such a short career he left us with a lot of gold

To paraphrase your post: “Buddy Holly is the man. What a treasure. Staple for Mr. Books. He’s heard it a million times and intends to listen to it another million.”

    The Stones’ cover slays, too.
