One of the coolest songs ever!  The reason Babyhead loves rock n roll.  Songs like this.

The song wastes no time, gets to it.  It all works.  Van’s feeling it and he makes you feel it.  The beat catches you and you’re gone.  Do they still make music like this?  Tell me I need to know.

Slap it on and hit the repeat button and catch the groove.  It doesn’t get any better.

Rock n roll the way it was supposed to be.

        Like The Animals, The Pretty Things or The Rolling Stones, was the repertoire from Them largely consisted by blues and rhythm & blues songs, which they played with a never heard before energy.

        When a lot of the bands we like started out they all seem to have that ‘Raw” energy and are playing with more feel and emotion which attracts us.

    In the mid-eighties I started buying import Them albums from Tower records…they were one of my favorite 80s/60s bands. Baby Please Don’t Go…their version is my go to version.

    Great pick today…I changed mine to a blues song…an old old old blues recording.

    Patti Smith covered it. U2 has a same-named tune that’s also really good but a different kind of Gloria.

    Back in the 80s when I went to one house party I still recall someone putting this one on and things ramped back up at 1 am! I’m amazed what the brain can retain but this track was an adrenalin kicker that night if anything amongst other vices lol

      I was there deKE. I was the someone that put it on. Things were needing a little jump start. Hours and hours of sitting in the classroom and I cant’ remember squat. Things pertaining to rock n roll I’m a genius.

        I used to live in a town called Roslyn, on Long Island. There was a small, amazing club there named My Father’s Place. It’s incredible how many great acts I saw in that club. One of them was Patti and her band. Late 1970s I guess. She and her group were fantastic.

        That is so cool Neil. I love stories like that (Personal connection). What a cool name for a club. You must of heard some very good music there. That was a hotbed time for great stuff.
        Patti’s music holds up so well. Not only do i dig her music but from what i have seen she is one cool person. I think i love her. Try this below Neil. Jools has a (had) great show and Patti and the band cooked on it.

    “Gloria,” the most rocking song to emerge from the 60s. When my friend and I formed our first rock band in 1965 we did the early covers at that time and some Beatles. When we learned Gloria, the binders came off and away we went. This is one of the most recognizable songs of that era. My band, The American Classics, formed in 2000 until 2019, kept this song in our play list and it was the one that got everyone on the dance floor. Good post CB.

        I deleted my Facebook and Instagram account, but will try and upload some tunes off of our CD. Yes, the audiance got even better. Our group in the 60s was The Orphans and then changed to The ATNT because of a copy write dispute. Fast forward to 2000 and I wound up playing with my old bass player and a drummer from The Coachmen. Dallas Fort Worth was a huge rock music scene in those days. Mark Nobles made a documentary about those times in DFW, its called “Teen A Go Go.” It’s on Netflix and Amazon. I believe every band in the US and UK played Gloria at one time or another. I played until August of 2019 and we were still playing that song when the band disolved. Somehow a bunch of guys in their 70s aren’t considered cool, although we were.

        Austin didn’t become the hot music scene until 1970-71. There were a few hippie bands there, but with the opening of the Armadillo World Headquarters, everything changed. Dallas, Fort Worth and Houston had it going on in the mid to late 60s. Austin is now considered the live music capitol of the world, and that’s a tall order to live up to. The saying ” Keep Austin Wierd” is alive and well since all the hippies from that time never left. It’s probably the only city were a guy with a masters degree in humanites is working at a fast food joint, all just to stay wierd.

        Heh. That reminds me. The top three bumper stickers I always saw in downtown was “Keep Austin Weird”, “Don’t Move Here” and “I have NOT lost my mind! It’s backed up on the server. The network is just down…again…”

        Which also reminds me of…what was the name of that record store that shut down near the UT campus? Right around MLK Blvd. and Guadalupe… It had been open for years and years…GAH, that’s gonna drive me crazy.

      Yes I did thanks. Close to the original. You have me curious about the rest of their music and will be checking more out. Im sure they have some more cuts just as good.
      Like a lot of folks are commenting on, ‘Gloria’ was a staple for most young bands back then.

        Yeah I think its off an album called ‘The Angry Young Them’. You know he grew up diggin The Drifters, Sam Cooke, Jackie Wilson. Im thinkin you and him like the same stuff.
