Album : Streetwalkers – Red Card

When I feel like some hard rock music this is a record (And band) that I reach for. Without a doubt one of music’s hidden secrets. They came from another band that was also a hidden secret, Family. Don’t ask me why that is or was. All I know they are no secrets with CB. I love them.

With one of rocks most unique vocalists in Roger Chapman and a top notch guitar player in Charlie Whitney (plays some great slide) they form a band with Bob Tench (Jeff Beck, Humble Pie, Van Morrison, Ginger Baker and more), Nicko (Iron Maiden, Pat Travers) and John Plotel. What you get with these guys is some great tunes played with a hard no bullshit edge.

Run For Cover opens the record and gives you a good idea what you’re in for. The second cut ‘Me An’ Me Horse An’ Me Rum’ is just one of CB’s favorite greasy tunes. They tell a story and it’s all in the title. Some guy way back, getting drunk and singing about it. Only Chapman could pull it off. Think western Peckinpah style. Man do they set the mood in this one. Love it.

So much good music on this album. The music might remind you of other stuff but I will guaurntee you they will be a different listen. They pull out so many cool musical ideas that keep the ear engaged. I did a take on their cover of Daddy Rolling Stone from this album. An all time CB favorite song. The whole band cooks with Nicko laying down some cool skins, Roger wailing then Charlie going to town with a fantastic solo. Rock n roll man.

Chapman’s vocals might be harsh for some folks but not me. They are perfect for this music. I’ve been wanting to feature this record for a while (and a Family one). I have been a fan of these guys since their Family days. They play some very cool interesting music. They have been on my spin list for many moons. I still pull this out and enjoy it just like I used to. Give it some time it might grab you if not there is lots of others music out there, but none like this.
