I have listened to John Prine for many years. One of the best. Love the guy.

I could have posted all his songs. Listening to ‘Aint Hurtin Nobody’ right now.
Our buddy the Boss called him “A national treasure’. Yup. He’s in our walking club Neil. I think I’ll go for a walk.

I wasn’t a big fan but I respected his talent. A damn shame is what it is.

Yeah not everybodys bag musically but a sweetheart of a guy. Last time I seen him , his guitarist (bad on CB for not remembering his name) was lights out . You would have dug it. John let him cut loose throughout the show. Prine just layed back and enjoyed the playing like the rest of us.
Check out Bear Creek below. It has some umph. Thanks for piping in Doc.

Thanks Doc. Yeah Bruce liked him a lot. I always think it’s cool when people I dig get together. I remember when Bruce joined him on his ‘Missing Years’ album (Will get the CB treatment).

Yeah it has some good licks. I think it’s an old Carter Family tune. Right up your country alley.

Not that I’m a George Strait fan particularly, but one song I heard I heard years ago and really liked was Strait doing “I Just Want to Dance with You” – sweet arrangement and great steel. Turns out it’s a cover of Prine. He’s got a bunch of songs like that with a very warm, personal feel to them. Probably why he gets covered so often. Rest in Peace.

You played it the other night. Yeah it’s a very good take on John’s tune. Yeah “warm personal” feel is a way to describe him plus a great sense of humor and word play thrown in. My son (Big Earl) is a big Tweedy fan. Tweedy jumped out of bed the other day and posted a Prine song. And I know you like that whole Tweedy thing.

Me and BIg Earl could do some damage, I bet. I do like Wilco/Tweedy, Uncle Tupelo, Son Volt and all that. And before we leave this one behind, let me give a shout for “Lake Marie” and “Killing the Blues” too

‘Swingin the world by the tale”. Love that lyric. We already talked about ‘Marie’ The sizzling” sausages” were Italian. The best kind.

I have a buddy that went to see him in the 80s. My friend saw him after the concert and Prine’s car wouldn’t start. My buddy jumped his car off and he said Prine was one of the coolest guys he ever talked to… I love his music. My introduction song was Dear Abbey…great song writer and I loved his voice and delivery.

I would catch him any time I could. Like seeing an old friend. His car not starting sounds perfect for him. What a cool memory for your buddy. Probably an old Buick. I’m a big fan of the man and his Music. ‘Dear Abby’ always got a big response from the live shows.
