This is one great rock n roll album. Old school played by Dave and his friends a little more new school. This album is a rocker and so is Dave. Not hard to hear where Edmunds gets his inspiration. Country twang, rockabilly, rock n roll.
Most of these cuts are originals but would not be out of place with Jerry Lee, the Everleys, Elvis, Perkins, Vincent, Berry and many more. Punk and disco and a lot of other kinds of music were making the rounds but CB was locked into this stuff. Again not a bad cut in my book, why I’m talking about it.
The album opens up with Bob Seger’s ‘Get Out Of Denver’ and Edmunds nails it. You can hear the ghosts of Don and Phil Everly on ‘Where Or When’. “Ju Ju Man’ is just a stone cold killer cut with some rockin squeezebox. A CB fave. The title cut is another good one. Shut up CB and put that record on.
I played the hell out of this record. Good time rock n roll played by top notch guys. People that love this style of music. Dave is fantastic and has a string of good records. ‘Get It’ is just one of them. Don’t take my word for it, just get it and give it a listen. It will only cost you about 30 minutes of your time. It might give you some new listening.
If you love rock n roll you will probably like this record. It just doesn’t stop. Edmunds, Parker, Lowe, Costello were all joined at the hip and I ate it up. Not reinventing the wheel just keeping it rolling in the right direction. This music is in good hands with Dave Edmunds. Get It!!!
Spin the two songs below and see what you get.
“Git It” is a nice Rock’n’Roller … sounds like a Beach Boys number.

I remember your take on it. Great album with lots of Dave’s influences.

You have a good memory, CB. Yes, I already did a review on “Get It”. Edmunds, Lowe and Company did a good job on this. The choice of songs is outstanding, the musicianship superb and the production first class! There’s a great version of “Hey Good Lookin'” that would make Hank proud.

We are in total agreement on this one and yes ‘Good Lookin’ is a good version.

Haven’t heard this, but will check it out.
Have you seen him on stage? I saw him once, with Rockpile. That was in 1980 or so.
Get out into nature today, CB!

I think it’s basically the Rockpile line up Neil. Yes I saw him, must of seen the same tour as you.
Had a bear in my backyard a while ago. How’s that for nature?!

Do you see bears often?

They see us more than we see them. I related a little encounter to Pete on one of his takes (Nudists on Scotland’s Trails) a while back if you want to check it out.
And the answer is I see them periodically. I live near a river where salmon spawn so they come to feed. They also come into my back yard to listen to music and smoke cigars with me plus to take a dump.

It’s nice of you to let them dump on your property.

Don’t know Dave Edmunds that well, but based on what I’ve heard, he’s definitely up my alley.
I remember seeing him once in a live concert on TV (I believe Rockpalast) and thought he sounded great. Looking forward to checking out that album!

You’ll hear all sorts of the people you like in his music. I can’t remember if he and Bruce wrote “From Small Things …’ together or Bruce gave it to him. Both are cut from the same cloth, Rockers!

Definitely have to check him out more closely.

I remember when Edmunds came around with “I Hear You Knocking.” A real throwback. It was pretty ballsy to put an older-sounding tune out in the ’70s when everybody had gone prog or folky or something. This one sounds right up my alley. I will give this one a spin tomorrow after I get over my PearlJam fix.

It just carries that same vibe as ‘Knocking’ so you’ll get more of that. And yeah he brought this out against the grain. Just good time no bullshit rock n roll by a guy who has it in his bones.
I’ll get over to your PJ take later.

Been wanting to get into more of Edmunds’ music, with or without Rockpile. I love his power-pop charger “Girls Talk.” Yeah, all four of those guys were “joined at the hip.” Great stuff, CB.

Yeah I think we know his stuff is pretty consistent. He got hooked up with Jeff Lynne (who I like) and it got away from this style, I like all 4 of those guys. All have their own voice but are rockers to the core. Maybe it helped when bands still cut their teeth playing gigs in bars and clubs. You can hear it in their music especially Parker and Edmunds.
I love this album!
(Right now I’m listening to that other “power-pop” person you like , Iris DeMent. Just kidding about the PP tag)

Nice one, CB – I’ll need to check this one out – definitely sounds like it’s my kinda record.

I would say you might like it. Has lots of “country” flavor. There are a few of us Edmunds guys around on these pages. I known you cant get any bigger ones than Hotfox and Immortal Jukebox.
