66 Oldsmobile 442. CB’s favorite ride.
Well folks I can’t tell you how much I enjoy doing the CB thing. Bringing my love of music and film to you all and sharing our thoughts on the various choices. I’m not going anywhere (maybe a walk later). I’m making a slight change that I probably didn’t even have to note.
The change is that I’m going to stop the chronological trip I’ve been doing with both the music and film. I’ve shakin it up a bit already with a few “Quick Hits” but I’m still stuck in the 70s with the chronological thing and by the time I get to the 80’s and beyond I won’t be around unless I live to be 100 years old ( ‘The 100 Year Old Man Who Climbed Out The Window And Disappeared’. Good film) and I don’t want to do that unless I can still eat solid food.
So the big change (actually small) is I’m going random. Like rolling the dice and going with what ever comes up. So that’s it, CB has actually watched and listened to things since after the moon landing and things like wine in a box/bag (what a great invention) and having to pick up dog shit (bad idea).
I’ll leave you with a couple songs. One wants CB to stay the same and the other wants to slap a new coat of paint on that bastard. Later folks. You make it fun.
Love this! I have a decent 1/18 model of that olds… What a machine. Love the kinks as well

Thanks for dropping by. I’ll swing by your place and see whats up. Usually stick with music/film but I have been know to branch out to expand my limited knowledge. Later Ninja.
Man does that 442 look great or what?! American perfection there.

By the way, doesn’t Waits also mention an older 88 Olds in one of his songs? If memory serves correctly?

You are correct. Good one. ‘Going Out West’ (Seems to me there might be a couple others). Also Tom Petty does one off his album Mojo ‘Let Yourself Go’ and of coarse the original ‘Rocket 88’.

It’s all quite simply, CB: red means stay, green means go.

That’s what I like. Keep it simple. Chances are the first review I do will be something from the 70s

How about just some down home common sense. I hear that’s in short supply in certain parts of your homeland. Of coarse I’m not speaking about you Doc

Yeah, things are getting rough around here. We’ll see what happens next election day. You might have to make room for old Doc up there in the Yukon. .

Bring that Prez up here and we’ll take him bear hunting. We’ll give him a jar of honey and a sling shot.
On the music side, I heard there was a woman up here who had a Grizzly encounter and scared the bastard off by playing Metallica music from her phone. Some music just does that to a bear. I here they’re partial to country.

Could Rush not serve the same purpose? Geddy Lee’s voice would be considered torture for me.

Actually it was a cougar. I heard Metallica reached out to both the woman and the cougar

Hi CB,
Ha, I hadn’t noticed the chronological thing…you be you. You are great, and we’ll hang on for the ride. I’ve taken some time off myself (busy summer…) but, I am just gonna be me and write what, whenever. Enjoy your walk…cya! ✌

“I gotta be me ..” if that’s not a song it should be.
Did we not have a conversation about ‘Passage To India’ a while back. Anyway the Gal and I watched it last night. It’s been a few years since I’d seen it. We both enjoyed it a lot.

Yes, I think when I reviewed one of Deepa Mehta’s films. I haven’t seen it yet…

That’s right. My Gal enjoyed ‘Passage’ a lot. Great film-making by one of the best in David Lean. Old school story telling with beautiful cinematography and fantastic performances especially by the two female leads.

On the “Wild Side”. The media is having a heyday with animal attacks in my area. Cougars, bears, Buffalo. I guess they’ve had it with us messing things up.

We encroach their territory and reduce their food supply, then when they fight back we eradicate. Did the same thing with the Indians.

Cool, CB. Not that I need to give you any advice here, but in my humble opinion, you should do what feels right to you. Plus, shaking things up is a good thing. I should do this more often myself!
I don’t I think I knew you were a car guy. While I’m certainly not an expert, I enjoy looking at vintage cars. Unlike the generic and mostly inspiring vehicles crowding our streets these days, many of the 60s and 70s cars had soul.
One item on my bucket list is driving across the country in a 68 Mustang Fastback, the “Bullitt model” – that, in my view, is the ultimate driving machine, not that other brand!😀
I also like your song choices. I dig The Kinks, especially their 60s music. And how about that great Tom Waits song? Sounds like he cleared his throat before recording it!😆

Thanks Christian. Not a big change and yes, always about what “feels right”.
I am a car guy especially those American Muscle Cars. So many good ones. That Mustang is a classic. The GTO, Charger, Dart, Javelin, 442, Roadrunner .. they all look great and go like crazy.
You know I’m a Kinks guy (Take coming up on a certain album) and Waits was just growing into his voice on that cut.

I listened to most of the Tom Waits album (The Heart Of Saturday Night) and have to say I really dig it. I mostly had known Waits from “Downtown Train.” While I like that tune, his vocals on it definitely are an acquired taste!😆

His voice wasn’t as gravelly early on. He has done some really good records. About time I get to a take or two on old Tom.

You’re right, just listening into “Closing Time.” It has a cool jazzy bar style music feel to it!

I was hoping you’d reference Tom Waits’ opener off The Heart of Saturday Night. One of my favourite tunes of his. You’re right not as gravelly on those first couple. Very cool car. What’s his other song, Old ’55? 🙂

Now you got ‘Ol 55’ going through my head not a bad thing. He started to morf into Howlin Wolf as he got older.
