Music Single : Cause I said So – The Godfathers

download

Just under 3 minutes of searing rock n roll. Why the Godfathers didn’t become more is beyond me. This song alone should have done it. Just from the opening you know you’re in for a ride. Bass comes in then that kick ass guitar. And then the snot nosed vocals. Right up there with the early Who snot.

These guys just rock. I can’t remember what was popular and on the radio when this song came along but I can guarantee it wasn’t these guys. I still get pumped when I hear this one. A great slice of rock off a really good rock n roll record (The album to follow one day). No fucking around with this one.

I featured these guys once with the great “Birth, School, Work, Death.” Good news is they’re still around and their web site says they’re playing three European music festivals this year. So maybe not super famous but still trucking along.

I remember your piece (I should have acknowledged that. Bad CB). Cool that they’re still doing it. Lots of bands I like are still out there performing. Good to hear.

No worries. You can’t keep track of all the other bloggers. I try to keep stuff in mind but it’s not always possible. I’m pretty sure they made a movie about these guys starring Marlon Brando.

Any one that acknowledges bands like the Godfathers deserves some kind of ribbon. One of the reasons I do this thing. Giving nods to good bands that flew under the radar. The album this song is on is a good one.
Marlon was the singer and played the bongos.

Another that wasn’t on my radar, CB. You have a habit of throwing stuff on there.

By the way, I see Big Head Todd released a cover of Cinnamon Girl with Toad the Wet Sprocket.

I figured these guys would have been in the well everyone drank from over there. This song and the album it’s off of are dynamite because I said so J.
I will check out that song right now. Todd can play guitar as good as anyone. I love what he does with it.
OK J I just listened to it. Yeah , that makes sense. First listen it sounds real good and will only get better. I want to do a take on covers that I like. This just might be an early contender.

Well, because you said so is all the authority I need to know that this stuff is dynamite. I’ll set aside some time this week.

I fair enjoyed the version of Cinnamon Girl too. I have a Spotify list that I created for when I hear a good cover. That’s one for it.

Our friend Music Enthusiast did a 3 song thing a while back and included the title song from ‘Birth,School, Work, Death. I was amazed. It’s a killer record that will get the whole treatment one day.
I’m not familiar with Toad just the name. You? Good idea on the cover thing. I’m also doing that so I don’t forget the ones I like.

Same here – heard the name, but that’s it. Likely check some stuff out now that I’ve heard that tune and I’m intrigued.

Spotify has a few albums on there, so I’ll check them out at some point.

I actually meant to throw a suggestion at you – Hunt Sales Memorial’s Get Your Shit Together. I think that’s CB music.

        I think you’ll like it.

Favourite Springsteen? Tough call… quite possibly Nebraska. Am I into it like Morrison Hotel? Well, I dunno, but I’m daft about it.

Yes, a good song! The Godfathers brought the punkrock in retrospect to a name. “Birth, School, Work, Death”. – Little of it can be avoided.

Didnt you just do a piece on them a while back? I’m losing my mind (what I have left)

No, I didn’t, but I listen now to ” Birth, School, Work, Death” again. Sounds still great but actually a little irritating…

I told my Gal I was ten times smarter than she would ever be just because I said so. Then I woke up and said “sure I’d love to take your mom shopping”. So much for being a snot.
They would probably still be pretty good live.

I guess I must have missed Music Enthusiast’s previous post, or it’s a case of bad memory.

Sometimes, I can’t recall what I did the previous day – I suppose it may be a side effect of listening to too much rock & roll music too loud!😆

Anyway, I don’t remember having heard about The Godfathers before, even though that’s kind of a memorable name. I agree with you this tune nicely rocks – and is going to kill more brain cells!😆

ME had it as part of his 3 song thing.
Like you I listen to a lot of music so sometimes it gets lost in the ozone.
Real good band. Another of those “Why don’t more people know them?”. I wore out their first album.
