Album : Jimi Hendrix Experience – Smash Hits

This is another record CB found in his brothers record pile and he listened to it a lot. Along with the other great albums I found in that pile it set the tone for what I would listen to in the future.

I’d heard some of these cuts already off of  ‘Are You Experienced’, The hard rock riffs on ‘Purple Haze’. The out and out rocker ‘Fire’ Hendrix style . Loved the drums on this one. ‘Wind Cries Mary’ is just a cool tune with some good vocals from Hendrix. Picture a pre -teen white kid singing along playing air guitar with Hey Joe. There were a few more cuts off the first album.

New cuts for CB were ‘Crosstown Traffic’, what can I say, a CB style tune. ‘Red House’ is  blues that Jimi nails. The album also has ‘All Along The Watchtower’ which is just fantastic.

CB liked the whole album. It was more of a taste of Jimi and the Experience, maybe more like a meal. I also liked the front and back cover of the record. The boys going western which always sits well with my love of western movies. Oh yeah there was Jimi’s guitar work which just sounded real good to me.
