I’ve been wanting to put this song on here for a long time. So CB got off his ass and finally pulled the trigger. What a great riff. This tune still sounds fresh to me. One of those got to have songs. Savoy Brown cut some good stuff and this is some of it. What a cool song. Great riff like I said, perfect vocals by cigar smoking Chris Youlden and then Kim Simmons comes in laying down some of his licks. Near perfection for me.
I also like the lyrics. One of those songs that got into my head early and made me a fan of this style of music, blues rock, heavy rock or just plain old solid rock. It has guts and was a gem from that time. It’s just a flat out cool cut.
“Now wouldn’t it be a real drag if we were all the same”

Ok. CB! I’m ready to get a few more. I’m gonna start listening “Hellbound Train” and “Blue Matter” again. Not sure how this sounds after so many years to me…

That old Savoy brown has been turning up a lot for me lately. It’s sounding good to me.

I listen to those old Savoy Brown records “Hellbound Train” and “Blue Matter” again. Kim Simmons is undoubtedly a good guitarist, but for me personally, are all the trombon players and percussion on “Blue Matter” too much of a good thing. Savoy Brown where never a jazzband, but that was fashionable in 1968 in Great Britan, even John Mayall’s Bluesbreakers and the Keef Hartley Band experimented with brass.

I like ‘Jack the Toad’. Brass can be tricky. Like you said. I have a Graham Parker coming up and him and the Rumor used it well.

Hi there, CB. I just looked at the Savoy Brown website. Kim is the only original member. They still tour a lot. Kim probably has played thousands of shows in his life. He’s a true trooper.

Yeah I think both Green Pete and Music Enthusiast have seen him in the last few years and said he’s still laying it down.

Yeah, I did see them and posted about it. Man, believe it or not, it was three years ago. Simmonds has plenty of energy, plays great, tours all the time, puts out CDs. He is as good as most of his peers but never quite got the recognition. I had SB’s “She’s got a ring in his nose” on my British blues compilation but they must have pulled it ‘coz it disappeared from my playlist. So I put this one on. “You have the blues not me.”

It’s just a great tune from back then. When I get locked into that old Fleetwood Mac, Cream, Mayall thing on that fantastic listening station you turned me onto, Savoy comes up in the mix and is right up there with their fellow countrymen. They made some very good music and like you pointed out Simmonds still does.

They have a few playlists up on Spotify. Think I’ll spin one.

I usually spin the albums and lock into those then it takes me to random cuts which I like. works for me.

Yes it is and I never get “tired” of it.

I would say it’s a small list of songs that I never tire of – that I can put on time and time again and still have spin my wheels. I would – except I started making that list and it’s a good two dozen already

It would be endless for me. All the songs I feature on CB’s takes make the grade. That’s why we do this crazy thing we do.

What’s this Savoy Brown shenanigans! I need more of this, CB!

Go back in the archives, lots of good listening. CB loves his “shenanigans”.

I do need to trawl the CB archives, cause I know I’d find some great stuff.

I meant Savoy Brown archives. Do not torture yourself with anymore of that CB guy.

How about I trawl both!? I added some albums to my Spotify list for some listening this week…
I’m currently listening to the new Claypool Lennon Delirium album. That gets better and better with each listen. Savoy Brown up next.

Yeah I have to give that Claypool one a good listen. Still can’t get my head around it but my ear is leading the way. It sounds good. My son (Big Earl) is going to see them and Jim James in the summer. Maybe Yoko will show up and show the boys how it’s done. Nooooo!

That sounds like it will be a great show (I’m a big fan of Jim James)… though that would definitely be different if Yoko appeared. Fingers crossed there’s none of that!

Big Earl would have a good comment if Sean’s mom made an appearance. I don’t think he knows her musical pedigree. About the same as CB’s and I don’t have one.

I’m currently listening to Savoy Brown’s Shake Down. Ain’t Superstitious is a tune… I can see me falling in love with this stuff.

Jack The Toad. Hell-bound Train is a great groove. Music like theirs sounds refreshing and it’s over 40 years old. Lots of good tunes J.

Got Hellbound Train on now. That’s a top tune… that bass just keeping it going. I’m gonna really enjoy discovering all this stuff.

I like this. Never heard it before. I’m not even sure who Savoy Brown is. Groovy.

Plug into ‘Downbound Train’. I think knowing your heavy riff side you will like it. Then take it from there.
