I think we’ve all fucked up lyrics of songs over the years. Put our own words in or guessed at them. I gave up trying to decipher certain vocalists over the years. Even with lyric sheets it’s impossible sometimes. CB is famous (in his own mind) for changing the words of songs. Substituting profanity in a lot of cases or just an easy rhyme. I guess it’s a way of personalizing the song. I’m sure that reading this you can think or are thinking of certain songs that fit the bill.
If you listen to the song below it’s a perfect example of what I’m talking about. When I first heard it I laughed my head off. I’ve continued to laugh at it over the years. I think John Prine has that magic. The ability to make people laugh and feel good. I think it’s a gift and he has shared it with us for many years. I love the guy.
Sting’s Geordie accent has produced some great mondegreens:
“A llama ties me up and rapes me”
“I hope that someone gets my massage in a brothel”

“Mondegreen”. I didn’t even know there was a word for this. Thanks for that.
Yeah those are some nasty “mondegreens” from Sting alright.

I like Prine too, just don’t know that specific song.

This version is off a great live album. called “John Prine Live’. How’s that for a catchy title. His live shows are pretty special. Has so many songs to pull from. When he sings ones like ‘Hello In There’ you can hear va pin drop.

Hey, is there really any difference between half an inch of water and half an enchilada? It all depends on how you look at things!

I want the whole enchilada in half an inch of water. The best part of that story is how the woman says “No you have a song about half an enchilada”

I love John Prine. Love love love. I have the first few albums on LP and CD. Why both? BECAUSE.
One of our bestest buddies, Brian, is forever singing the wrong words to songs. In fact, I don’t think he ever knows the right words, he just makes them up. It’s fascinating.

That’s hilarious. Unapologetic to boot. Does he sing along with Johnny Rivers to ‘Seasick Asian Man’?

Haha. That’s amazing… I haven’t heard this one before.
I’ve had a mind blank trying to think of an example, but you really need to make up your own lines to Kings of Leon tunes. That Caleb lad is like Boomhauer.

Isn’t that cut the best. Prine is so fricking cool.
I had to look the ‘Boomhaur’ guy up. My kids had me watching a few episodes. Yeah he’d be a perfect old blues singer. Hilarious

Funny. Or as Jimi Hendrix is reported to have sung, “‘Scuse me, while I kiss this guy.”

Yeah that’s a classic.
Heres something Falda sent a few years ago.

I love this. It seems just to be a silly song that makes you laugh. But it’s a song about life, and how each day brings you something different. You may be down in the dumps right now, but just wait a little, and your going to have better days. Life is random.

Yup. That’s Prine at his best. He just has a special vibe.

Picking up your political interests John wrote a song that was inspired by, I think it was George Bush “Some Humans Aint Human’

We did a lot of deliberate mishearing during the dark humourless days of NuMetal. The one that really sticks in my minds ear was Papa Roach Last Resort corroding from “Cut my life Into pieces” to “Caught my Wife eating feces” and the room turning green on itself.

That’s a good one. Slap a blue ribbon on it.
