Music Single : King Crimson – Easy Money

Hard Rock, hard jazz or just beautiful noise. All I know is I love this cut. So many elements come into it for CB. This is one of the first KC songs I heard and it made me an instant fan. John Wenton and Bill Bruford lay down some of the best foundation in rock. Robert Fripp picks up the groove and adds his unique guitar and just does what he does. Bluesy, jazzy, hard just the way I like it. The music just builds and builds and takes you with it.

Jamie Muir adds his percussion and noises. They stay in the groove and build it then it comes together with David Cross adding his violin. I love when it breaks into this. Oh yeah Wenton adds perfect vocals. What a cool piece of music. I heard some things close to this but not exactly like it. Love this cut . Off a great album. Fripp rips one of my fave solos

A CB favorite. Right up there with that other ‘Money’ song by Floyd. Bracket some time slap on some phones and take a trip with King Crimson. Oh yeah, Turn up the volume.

Larks Tongues in Aspic is a pretty amazing record – teeters into avant garde sometimes while still remaining accessible. Generally any rock record with Bruford is great.

Just posted this before calling it a night. We’ve been over the KC recordings and the different line ups. I really the the sound from this group of players. Brufords work is fantastic on this cut. About a minute and a half in Bill and John start laying it down for the band.
(I popped over to your place earlier this week and haven’t been back to drop a comment on the Genesis cut. I’ll catch up later. I love that era of the band. That’s when I was heavy into them and KC)

Great groove. Robert Fripp on the guitar is a pleasure.

His playing has always grabbed me. He just gets into this one. Bruford does also.

As you see in my blog, I’ve made also a King Crimson flashback last week. My favorite song of them is probably “21st Century Schizoid Man”, but I like “Easy Money” too because of his slight blues influence and deep groove which leads into a solid group improvisation.

I’ll be over to see what’s up on your station. King Crimson have so many good records. I’ve said it before but I really dig the line up on this cut. The “improv” is something they do well. Great stuff.

I was into and out of Crimson, so while I recall this album I don’t know it very well. (I dig the fact that the title refers to a delicacy.) Nice cut. I’ll have to give this album a spin. That Wetton/Bruford combo is fucking potent.

I’ve been listening to Bruford bang the skins for a long time. And now when I hear him he just blows me away even more. I love a good drummer. Like the worlds nicest man, Ginger Baker, says, “he knows time”.

Yeah, retired now unfortunately. Pounding away like that gets to you after a while I suppose.

I wore the album out. KC has many good ones but this song is off a really good one. Can’t lose with that lineup. ‘The title cut starts out gentle then goes mental.

Don’t know much King Crimson, CB (only In the Court of the Crimson King and Red). Incredible musicianship… no doubt they can all play.

Both good ones J. Red pretty much the same line up as on this one. I would guess that ‘Court’ would be their best known. Like I said to 1537, KC has lots of good records. Different lineups with Fripp being the mainstay. This line up cut , I think 3 albums. I like the combination. They still sounded good even after I threw away the pot.

Another very intriguing choice – love the bass part on that tune!

Other than some Yes and Genesis music, I haven’t really gotten much into progressive rock – well, I suppose I should also mention Pink Floyd, which as you know I dig big time.😀

I’ve listened to some Gentle Giant, Caravan and some King Crimson before. But as I alluded, lots more to explore here!

That bass and drums get me every time. I’m not a musician but it sure moves me.
KC to me really stand out for their ideas and musicianship. If you like this check out the other recordings this line up did. ‘Red’, ‘Starless and Bible Black’ and a few live recordings.
This type of music has so many branches. Throw Zappa in there also. You and me both, on being big Floyd guys.
