Music Single : Emerson, Lake & Palmer – Knife Edge

A cut off the very first album I ever bought. It still does it for me. Launched me into this style of music. Bass lays it down and Palmer ‘s cymbal adds to it. Lakes vocals are perfect then that Emerson guy comes in and does his thing and the song explodes. Fantastic! Oh yeah I dug the lyrics also. They bring it down again and build back to the release.

Emerson takes the bulk of the song and gets a little off track with a classical bit but the other boys bring him back to earth with that great heavy riff. It still gets my blood going. They take it out on this note. Heavy, hard, big sound.

This was my intro into the ELP world and I loved every second of it. I sill get off on this one (and lots of their other stuff). I never heard anything like it before. I liked everything about this song and this band. I wanted to be Keith Emerson. I even grew a mullet.

These three guys made some very good music and this is some of it.

    That’s an adventurous first choice.

Brothers. Yeah it opened up more roads for me. This album must have sprung a lot of heavier bands

(Your list has sent me onto other roads. I was digging Zack Wylde and Black Label Society)

I’m picking up all sorts of good stuff from the list. Thanks again for doing that. I’ve been stopping by your station (you haven’t been as busy as usual). Guess I should drop a comment

That’s great, was a pleasure! Yeah, I had a big break at the end of the year there. Back into it now but just gonna focus on reviews rather than news and all that kinda stuff. Just want to enjoy my collection and write about that now.

I really like the reviews. Where I get my new leads. Plus interesting on what grabs people’s ears. Later HMO.

I dug ELP quite a bit at the time and saw them maybe 3 or 4 times. Great shows with Emerson sometimes spinning around on his piano magically. I confess that I have lost a lot of my zeal for their stuff. Carl Palmer came to town not too long ago. I considered going but alas, much prog is no longer my cup of tea. That aside, this is a great tune.

We might have been standing beside each other. I’ve been revisiting a lot of this stuff and it still sounds good. ELP had so many good songs (From the Beginning) but were always an album band for me. I betcha Palmer (like Bruford) would have been worth it. I’ve lost touch with him (so much other music to explore). I gave ELP a lot of my time back in the day. Don’t regret a second of it.

When I do the single thing it isn’t the traditional 45 (just songs I like) but I think it’s the flip side of ‘Lucky Man’
Mom is “fond’ of Tarkus. Even back in the day I always thought ELP was a guy band. Very cool on your mom. I’m going to pull it out and listen to it just because of that comment.

What a great song, album, and band. This album is probably my favorite by them. Wish folks still made music like this!

Jings. Can you believe this is the first Emerson, Lake & Palmer I’ve ever heard? Guess I’ll need to explore more now!

I know you like your music with a side of heavy. ELP early on ripped a few of those. Try this one below Mars. I’m not up on my time lines for when music started to get into so called Heavy Metal but this was 1970. Emerson does his classical bit but the band again brings him back to earth.
