Music Single : Big Head Todd and the Monsters – Broken Hearted Savior

download

Why isn’t this band more well known? The age old question. CB knows them and that’s his win. This song just cooks. Is this some great straight ahead rock? Yes! No bullshit just some great music played by 4 guys that know what’s up. I put this song on awhile ago and can’t get it off my spin cycle (I don’t want to).

Todd rips a couple solos. He lets loose with just over a minute to go. He can play that thang as good as anyone. This is one real good band that makes some great music. This is just a taste of what they do. This song just builds then the band kicks into high gear. This is live music played well. What a sound. Very cool and one of the best band names ever. Man I miss shows like below when the band just comes out and plays like this. Seriously folks check more of these guys . Bands like BHT & the Monsters keep the rock n roll flame burning for Cincinnati Babyhead. I love these guys.

Have a listen and see what you think of one of those well kept secrets in the music world. I want to be in this band.

(The whole Red Rock gig is awesome! They do Hooker’s ‘Boom Boom Boom’. ZZ Top with a clean up and a hair cut)

(My friend Doc over at Music Enthusiast gave Todd and the boys a nod way back. Why I like the guy)

Good tune but that live thing points to my number one least favorite trend – the band stops singing and waits for the audience to sing. Man, I fucking hate that. Complete waste of time and I’m not paying good money to hear a bunch of audience members sing out-of-tune. (Sole exception – me, when I sing ‘Rosalita’ at the top of my lungs at a Bruce show.)

You mentioned ‘Boom Boom’ and that’s Todd and the boys doing it every week as the intro to NCIS New Orleans.

One for the fans. Todd let them get it out of their system and then took over. Like Flo and Eddie said “it’s like a big rock concert.”. I was going to pick the studio version but Big Head and the boys are so good live. I was going to mention Bruce. I think he gave up years ago. It’s like a “stress” release for the audience. Plus he encouraged it and created the monster. (I do it at Keith Jarrett gigs)
I don’t watch the boob tube so I didn’t know about that show. The bottom line Doc is this is a band that earned their stripes the old fashioned way, Playing gigs and more gigs.. I think I heard they toured with your ABB guys. Great music and I love Todd’s playing.

Haven’t listen to much of these guys outside of the cover of Boom Boom they did with JLH. That version is solid.

Real good band Mars similar to TH. Learned how to play by gigging to death. Plus i think their audience loves them just as much. I just really dig their sound. Been a fan for a while.

I started listening to Big Head Todd when they had “Another Mayberry” (1989) and “Midnight Radio” (1994) out. The two albums are great in their their rawness. Their small-label success allowed them to create the music they wanted to play without letting big corporate dictate their sound, or overproduced their albums. Playing just for the love of it. This ist their roots. May this be the reason why this band isn’t more well known?

As usual you are right on with your take. I agree with all that you said. “Creating the music they want to play”. Just the thought of some exec in the studio telling musicians what to do makes me cringe. Great band Fox. I’m never to far from them. I will go revisit the albums you noted. Man 1989. They have been doing it for a long time. As still think of them as new.

Right, thatā€™s another on my list now. A very warm vibe they have going on. Iā€™m away to Spotify to find some albums…

Lot’s of good cuts. ‘Bitter Sweet’ was the song the record company pushed. It is a good one to push. Here’s Todd and the Boys doing a ZZ Top riff on the old Hooker song. I love Todd’s playing.

Yeah, I can see why you were saying they were something of a cleaned up ZZ Top.

Good band J. Learned their craft by playing gigs. Not pretenders.
