Gal is retired from his life of crime. He’s spending his time in Spain living comfortably in a villa and pretty much kicking back with his wife and a couple of friends. Living the life of leisure and ease his former life has provided him. Life is real good. Lots of laughs, drinking, lunches, dinners, lounging by the pool. Things change fast. You think a big boulder crashing down and landing in your pool is bad. That’s nothing compared to a visit by Don Logan. He shows up to get Gal back to do a job. Don Logan is a fucking nightmare come to life. Life of Reilly is over.
OK, any movie that opens with a guy floating in a pool with The Stranglers playing over top has my attention. A British gangster movie that is so much more. Jonathan Glazer directs this stylish, violent, uncensored, one of a kind film. The movie turns on a dime when Don Logan shows up. You can feel that everyone is terrified of the guy. You believe that they are legitimately scared shitless. The cast is brilliant. Ray Winstone nails it and so do the rest of the cast. Ben Kingsley as Don Logan is one of films premiere wack jobs. How good is Ben in this.? Watch and see (The guy played Ghandi). Something to experience. It’s not comfortable. Probably the worlds worst house guest. Glazer mixes in a little heist for good measure. Very good film! To CB anyway.
I did see this. It was a critical fave. Yeah, Kingsley shows amazing range from this to Gandhi to Schindler’s List. He’s in a new movie about finding Nazis called Operation Finale. But I’ve kinda had it with WWII movies in general and Nazi ones in particular. Seen everything by now.

His “Don Logan” is such good work. It’s just a little out there and guttural to get to much notice. People like the “nice” stuff like Ghandi. My gal even liked it especially when he finally bought it.
I hear you on the WWII genre but I tell you Doc there are some really good films still being made and a few hidden gems

Yeah I know. I just need a Nazi break for a while.

A “Nazi break” is always a good idea.

I still haven’t seem this. I couldn’t tell you why, though. You suggest I rectify that pronto?

Yup. Good film all around with good performances by all involved. Jonathan Glazer makes a film outside the box.

Exactly what we need from a flick. I’ll shunt this higher up the list!

I saw it on its first day out, my mate said ‘come and see this one, it’s got Ghandi in it’ and I got Don Logan …

Ghandi gone bad. I would bet a few people walked out of the theater.

Why are you swearing? I’m not swearing … he terrifies me!

Such a good film. The way the other characters were “terrified” sold it. They were all totally in the moment. I always wondered how much of his own stuff Ben threw into the performance. That “swearing” piece was beautiful. I was feeling as uncomfortable as Ray Winstone.
