We get some narration over top of some great camera shots of Texas hard country. We see a man arrested by the side of the road in this setting. He’s taken in to the Cop station where he kills the cop, escapes kills another man with a air powered bolt pistol. We’re not even 5 minutes in. We cut to another man out hunting in this same country. He comes across a drug deal gone bad with several dead bodies and abandoned trucks at the scene. He finds the money that was involved. 2 Millions dollars. He decides to “Do something dumb as hell” and keep the money. Things go bad real quick with him being pursued by the people involved in the slaughter. Plus he crosses paths with our air tank carrying friend in the other scenes.
CB absolutely loves this film. So many of my favorite genres combined with great filmmaking come together. The Coens ( I like their work. This one the best) draw us into Llewellyn’s “Do something dumb as hell” decision. Beautifully shot, directed, scored, acted. Not one week performance. Brolin, Jones, Bardem, Macdonald are real good.
Countless great scenes add up to make a great flick. If the scene where Llewellyn gets chased by the dog doesn’t get your blood going I don’t know what will. Game on!
Cat and mouse in a violent modern western, thriller, crime film. Great adaptation of the Cormac McCarthy book. It’s always up for a rewatch. Top notch. If some half dead killer in a bullet ridden pick up asks for “agua” think twice before you get him some.
Love this film. Some subtle differences to the book but, for once, I think I prefer the movie. Pure Coen gold

A are occurrence for a book to film but I can’t argue with you.

The Coen boys have made so many good films. An art house cinema near me is showing The Big Lebowski in a few nights from now. They sold out the first screening and had to add a second. Me and my wife are going. That movie is hilarious.

‘Lebowski’ is worth a take on it’s own. When I first seen it Neil. there were about 5 people in the theater. The only one that beat that was ‘The Two Jakes’. The Gal and I had the place to ourselves. Just the way the unsociable creature CB likes it. Coens are good. When you see Gazzara pop up in the flick say hi to him. He was a great guy.

Some of the Coen stuff leaves me a little cold, but this is just a perfect film. The cinematography is worth the ticket price alone and as you say the performances are just great.
Bardem gave me nightmares after this.

The Coens hit the mark on this one for all the reasons you stated. I love the look and feel of the film. Something about that location does it for me.
I have another take coming up with a character just as shithouse crazy as Bardem’s performance.

Slow, aesthetic films with quirky characters and absurd dialogues runs through the whole work of the Coen brothers. This one has a few corpses in his luggage. I think who looks at this movie knows why he does that.

Yeah this one takes you along for the ride. It did me for sure. I remember seeing a critic just cringing when talking about this film. It bothered him to the point he was uncomfortable.

This film may not be for everyone but it’s clearly Coen brothers magic.

Good choice, CB. Bardem is particularly nasty in this. I wonder if he could drink Daniel Day-Lewis’ milkshake.

He certainly put his stamp on this film. The performances are all very good. This is the film that I discovered Josh Brolin. I really like his work on this one.
And yeah the “milkshake’ reference got a chuckle Doc. Daniel would have fit in this flick somewhere.

Yeah, too bad he’s retiring. His last flick Phantom Thread got good reviews. BTW, we rented ‘Chappaquiddick’ the other night. Good flick.

‘Thread’ is on the list. I saw a doc/news thing on ‘Chappaquiddick’ years ago. Case of money and influence getting someone off? Alcohol if I remember played a big part. Here’s one for you Doc. I see Dern is in it. I think he comes from political stock. I might have to check it out on your recommendation.

Dern plays Joe Kennedy but it’s post-stroke so he has a non-speaking role. I’d be curious of your opinion on this if you get a chance.

I remember the story stirring up lots of emotions. Didn’t come away with a good feeling. But that’s’ never stopped me from watching a good flick

I love this flick, CB. Love the book, too. The casting was spot on – I love Tommy Lee Jones here more than anyone else. Even though everyone else is perfect.

Jones is absolutely perfect in the role. He has the miles and the chops to make the character truthful.
(I’m still holding you to ‘The 3 Burials..’ take when you get the time)

He’s an actor who plays that role so well. Not just solving a problem, but looking at the riddle of the changing times. Where is his place in all of that.
(I haven’t forgotten… I dare say it’ll be “watch this for Jones”. Ha!)

That’s a review right there J. Perfect. That was Jones to a tee.
(Cool. It’s such a good movie. Carrying a dead guy around on a horse is always a good place to start a script)

Simply one of the greatest movies of all time. This and There Will Be Blood. Both came out in 2007. Spot on as always CBH: Beautifully shot, directed, scored, acted.

Just talking these two with a friend last night. He’s getting into Cormac McCarthy. Two fantastic films for so many reasons.
