Movie : Snap Review – Riphagen : The Untouchable

download (4)

Dries Riphaen is a Dutch criminal working for the Nazi’s during their occupation in WWII. He plays everyone against each other for his own gains. Jews and resistance groups (plus the Nazi’s) are his main sources for his betrayals. Based on a true story.

There is not a bad performance in this very good film. Koningsbrugge sets the tone with his all to real portrayal as Dries. The subject matter is tough stuff.  Direction (Peter Kuijpers), story and the look of the film are top notch. CB did a “Bad Asses of film” take a while ago. He wants to add Dries Riphagen (Jeroen van Koningsbrugge) to that list.

Excellent movie.

Haven’t heard of this one, CB. Sounds like something I should look out for.

I really liked this one. Slow at times but not boring. All performances are outstanding especially Jeroen van Koningsbrugge. These stories always get me. How would CB act if if was in this situation?

It’s definitely exceptional circumstances there. But this chap sounds a bit more of a sinister version of yon Schindler fella.

Yes he is. He had me guessing for a while on what he was up to. Tough subject matter. Did I say based on a true story?

Yeah. I guess it was an ideal time for opportunists and criminals. Loads of money to be made.

I read a wee bit about him… definitely a bad bastard. Left his family so he could live on the money he’d made – stuff stolen from those that trusted him and, I dare say, a nice wad a cash from the Nazis.

I’m sure a good documentary would be interesting. Just how slippery and ruthless and heartless he was.

Yeah, definitely the kinda chap that would be a good focus for a documentary. So much to cover… career criminal to Nazi collaborator.
