Movie : Snap review – The Iceman

By chance CB saw a documentary on a professional contract killer, Richard Kuklinski. He did his work in the New Jersey/New York area. The doc was mesmerizing and CB was fascinated by Kuklinski.

Jump forward a few years and I hear they made a movie about the guy called ‘The Iceman’.  I’m not usually into docu/dramas (CB never feels they get it right).  Well the filmmakers get it right with this one. It’s a good flick. Well acted, directed (Ariel Vromen), shot and it sweeps you up in Kuklinski’s life. It plays like a documentary.

Michael Shannon plays the title role and he is perfect. What a good actor this guy is. No false moves.  CB doesn’t pay attention to the awards in the entertainment world but Shannon would get the CB award. Never saw his work before ( I went onto find more). The guy is good.

If you’re into gritty, real, truthful, violent, dark, coarse and no bailing out you’ll dig it.  Again CB doesn’t like comparisons but ‘The Iceman’ is is in the Taxi Driver, Good Fellas, Bad Lieutenant school.

(If inclined check out the documentary)

I thought his face seems familiar — he was in a big hit last year. The Shape Of Water. He plays a real bad guy in that one too!

Haven’t seen that film. Shannon is solid. Not always bad. I saw him in Mud and Take Shelter (real good performance).
Watched a good film last night. ‘Far From Men’. It might be up your alley Neil. My gal liked too.

Excellent flick. I thought it was pretty intense at times… a right bad bastard, eh?

I like Shannon. Appeared to pop up in loads of stuff I was watching or wanting to watch over the space of one or two years there.

That Take Shelter flick was all him… absolutely incredible performance. Scene after scene. Totally believed him.

Yeah Shannon is one of those guys that brings it for sure. ‘Take Shelter’ is one of those off the radar films CB loves. Again like you said He’s truthful as hell. From start to finish. I might have to do a take on it. It’s harder for me to find newer films that move me but the’re out there like a couple you’ve pointed out.

If you haven’t seen the doc on Kuklinski watch it. Scary bad man.

Yeah, I’ll be on the lookout for that documentary. I do like a good documentary… especially if it’s about the right person / thing / whatever.
