What can I say “Don’t do it don’t you break my heart ” Danko’s bass sets the tone, with Helm then the horns , it’s the Band’s magic. Just no bullshit music the way they played it. Man does this version sound good. One of the best things to happen to CB on his musical journey was being exposed to this band and their music. Helm just cooks on this along with his mates. Robertson adds some tasty licks. Everytime I hear it i just want more more more. I’ve heard other real good versions of this song but this is the one that does it for me. They take this Holland Dozier Holland song and make it their own. Man do I miss these guys. But hey they still live with stuff like this.
“My biggest mistake was loving you to much ” I’m gonesville.

The Band were so great. Their first two albums are among my favorite ever. Have you ever seen Levon’s daughter Amy in concert? She’s real good.

Never seen her Neil but have heard her. The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.
The first 2 albums are faves of mine, hell i love it all. This tune is right up your alley for that R&B you love.

Amazing tune. One of the best at highlighting that R&B Americana thing they had going on… they were just so fucking good, man (pardon the excitable language!)

I say those words every time i listen to the Band. Their originals were great but they put their sound to the tunes they covered. ‘Back To Memphis’ and ‘Loving You is Sweeter Than Ever’ are two other faves. You are absolutely right about the R&B Americana thang.

Aye, they knew how to play and pour everything into it. Dripping with sweat, heart, and soul. Dare say some blood and tears in there, too.

See comment I left on the BB take.

We talked about this one before over at my crib. I have both this and the Who’s version on regular rotation. Hard to fuck this one up.

I think this version is off of ‘Rock Of Ages’

It’s always great fun to watch musicians who are truly engaged and not doing some “routine performance.” These guys were really killing it!

I love the way they rock out near the end. Helm goes to town on the skins. Not going through the motions. One of the reasons I like them so much. They loved to play.
