Daniel Plainview is an “Oil Man” and will do anything to make himself successful. He’s ruthless, driven and a little nuts on the side. We watch him from his beginnings in the oil boom to his end. It’s a hell of a ride.
CB was absolutely mesmerized by this flick. Everything about it totally absorbed him. The visuals (Fantastic), the music, performances (Daniel Day Lewis oozes the role). Paul Thomas Anderson makes a great piece of film helped out by top notch talent behind and in front of the camera. You will believe you are there in that time and place. Great film-making. They still make them. You looking to feel good, not going to happen. Looking for a no holds barred motion picture. A CB style film for sure. Catch it and get some oil on yourself.

I wouldn’t say I was mesmerized by it but yeah, it’s a hell of a movie. Daniel Day-Lewis, we take as a given but this was the first time I’d seen Paul Dano and he was awesome. I drink your milkshake!

Yeah when Dano had Lewis in front of the congregation and was slapping the shit out of him. I wanted to jump up and smack him. Lewis got him back at the end. Amazing this movie got the attention it did. Nobody lickable in it. Also thought Lewis was doing a bit of John Huston in his voice.

The “milkshake” is beautiful.

I thought that line would become part of the culture but it never really did. Pity.

Maybe that’s a good thing. I don’t know what I’d do if my Gal said that line to me.

I read that Day-Lewis deliberately chose John Huston’s voice to emulate. I thought it was a great movie, although very dark, and I was turned off by the ultra-violence in the bowling alley at the end.

Yeah, endings like that aren’t going to make you many friends. I didn’t know that about the Huston thing other than it’s obvious when you hear it. It worked for me.

I love this one unconditionally… one of my favourite movies, actually. Old Danny is exceptional in this one… a real bad bastard, too.

Yeah it’s a good one. It’s one of those films that balances the mainstream stuff they pump out of the machine. (I’m amazed at how much restraint I use when I make those comparisons)

Love this movie. Dano was terrific – in both roles! Not to mention DDL. Watched it when recovering from surgery, finished it and played it again!

Yes it’s a multiple viewer for sure. You seen him in ‘Swiss Army Man’? Off the wall but I liked it.
