CB was familiar with Chris Spedding as a session guy. So I took a chance on one of his albums. This is one of the cuts off of it. Instant CB love. I didn’t even know it was a Bo Diddley tune. Needless to say it was right up my alley. Right off the top with the opening “I’m a Roadrunner honey” then Chris’s guitar takes us into rock n roll heaven. The infectious beat carries the song with Spedding singing and laying down some great chops.
This is one of the coolest songs in the world. Lots of great versions but this is the go to one for me. Chris is a dyed in the wool rocker just like CB. Lots of great guitarists out there. Chris Spedding holds his own with any of them. CS takes this great Bo song and does it justice. Get greasy with Chris. I saw Spedding and Robert Gordon together in a small dive.. The concert was exactly the way this song sounds.
“Take my hand baby..”

I’ve seen his name on credits a lot, but didn’t even know he had solo records.

He can play any style you want. I guess that’s why he was every where at one time. But I think he leans towards this style.

Cool tune. Spedding’s name crops up from time to time but I don’t know much about him. Wikipedia says he’s been in 11 bands!

I seen him one time where he played a solo and did chops from all his peers. Fantastic in how bang on he was (I remember that clip you sent of that guitarists playing all those famous riffs). I’m sure all his old contemporaries would have some things to say about Chris. What a “cool tune” is right..

Yeah, an under-the-radar kinda guy. I was pretty sure I’d mentioned him somewhere. Turns out you and I discussed him in context of the ‘Forever Autumn’ song that Justin Hayward eventually wound up doing.

I had to go and look but yeah that was a surprise. Spedding was all over the place at one time. My first taste of him was with Jack Bruce.

I have an interesting Cream-related take coming up in the not-too-distant future.

Oh man, don’t do that. I will be tossing and turning tonight using up brain cells and beauty sleep. I was just listening to Goodbye Cream the other day.

Spotted the name once or twice, but I’ve never heard anything by him (that I know of). I like this (song is familiar).

He’s been around for ages. One of those guys i locked into and liked. His work with Robert Gordon is a Rockabilly feast. Yeah the song is a Bo Diddley number that’s been covered by a lot of folks. The Who did a version or two.

A link to The Who, eh? That and your other post was just what I needed to spur me into revisiting their stuff… this is pretty brilliant. Damn you.

I remember sitting in the theater watching ‘The Kids Are Alright’ and a live clip of the band doing this song. It was loud and Nasty.

Yup, I’m a big Springsteen fan. One of my fave parts of his music is when he strangles his guitar.

Cool. Check out the earlier Animals version too. I always giggle at the motor car/bike sound – if that ain’t a plastic comb, I’ll go he.

Thanks for that. You have put a big grin on my face. Those sound effects are the best. Back in the day they must have thought they were on the cutting edge. Now this is stuck in my head. I’m killing myself.

Wow, that’s a kickass version! I heard the tune before, but it was neither this nor The Who’s take, which rocks nicely as well!

Your an East Coast guy I think. Spedding and Gordon still gig back there I think. Old guys still kicking it old school. Yeah it’s great tune from Bo. I love this version. Bruce from Vinyl Connection steered me to an Animal take . It’s kinda funny.

You could probably do a whole take on all the different versions of Bo’s song.

In the 60s all British R & B bands had the song in the tailon …
