Music Single : No Pussy Blues – Grinderman

download (3)

CB fell for this song hard.  Blues, Grinderman style.  Loud and nasty.  Fantastic!  These guys aren’t faking it and Nick is feeling it.  They take a big swing here and nail it.  Bass and drums lay it down while Nick tells his story, Warren is chomping at the bit and finally comes in with his savage guitar and the band explodes.  Wherever these guys are pulling it from CB wants more.  Not too many people commit to their music like NC.  Man am I glad there’s music like this around.  I can’t tell you how much I dig it.

Nick did everything he could and “she still didn’t want too”.  She just laughed at Nick and now he’s got the no pussy blues.  Poor bastard.  He even did her dishes.   Music with an edge and more edge.

(CB has a few musical regrets. One of them was not catching Grinderman when they came through my town. I heard it was beyond great)

That is some heavy shit and the title gets right to the point. Is that Nick Cave? Maybe she “just didn’t want to” because he’s kinda ugly and scary-looking.

Nick is no day at the beach but hey, I’m not bent that way. I was wondering what a blues traditionalist like you would think of the tune. It would have been cool to hear a Muddy or a Hooker version. In the clip you see the next band up watching. A wonder what was going through their heads after Grinderman did that? What the hell kind of guitar is Warren Ellis playing? It looks small like a mandolin.

The song has its “charms” but I’m not so sure if I’d dig a whole album in that style.

Yeah jumping into Nick/Grinderman can be a little bit of a side trip but I’ve been listening to him for a long time so i guess I’m used to the “style”. Cool that you still are open to new sounds. A true music man.

Exactly the same kind of vibe. I love that album.

I freaking love this beastie. I love his self-loathing in the song.

Yes! I love this one. Amped up manic blues. Not even my favourite Grinderman cut, which just highlights how bloody good they are… I think I was more a fan of this stuff than the Bad Seeds. It’s visceral and pissy. Don’t cross the Grinderman!

And not seeing them is one of my musical regrets, too. Pah.

There’s a lot of their cuts that are stuck in my head, ‘Heathen Child’ for one. My aunt used to call me “a little heathen’ so i have a connection .

That seems so unfair CB. If anything youre a big heathen.

You’re absolutely right, I got bigger. More “heathen” to go around. I had no idea what it meant but at least someone was paying attention to me.

If you’re going to throw a “name that lyric” at CB you better make it more of a challenge.

I know CB is easily confused so I toss him the low-hanging fruit.

Thanks Doc. Back on the music track, Green Pete just tipped me off on a Fleetwood Mac album ‘Shrine 69’. It is really good! Listening to Green it makes me think he was listening to a lot of BB King. 1969 Doc, it sounds like it was recorded yesterday, nothing dated.

Dont know that one. I have Boston Tea Party and BBC. BB King was a big admirer of Green’s.

We are here to talk about music (film and other stuff) so I will keep this thread going, yeah ‘Teae Party’ is a good one. That’s cool about BB. I’ve been listening to him and love his sound and I hear it in Gree’s licks. You would know the term. Sort of a high , clean, clear and smooth sound.

So I go and listen to a Ronnie Earl set and I hear a song called ‘Heart of Glass’ and its dedicated to Peter Green.

I’ve seen Ronnie a number of times in this neck of the woods. A fine, fine player.

I figured you would dig Earl. Not too many guys with a guitar and pick that play the blues get by the Doc.

Heathen Child is amazing. In fact, Grinderman 2 might be my favourite… Mickey Mouse And The Goodbye Man is about as good as album openers get.
