Single : Rockin’ My Life Away – Jerry Lee Lewis

download (14)

I remember when this song (album) came out. It was just a reminder of who was the king of Rock n roll. With all the different kinds of music CB was listening to at the time CB needed  the Killer to keep him honest and not get to above his raising.

Lewis wastes no time with this one.  Everything is pure rock n roll.  From his piano (does anyone play and sing like him), James Burton’s guitar, the beat and Jerry Lee’s vocals and lyrics. This is why I fell in love with this music.  The old guy was still doing it and he’s still doing it. No one moves me more than Jerry Lee. This wasn’t some  go through the motions cut, it was all out, full force music from a one and only.  I love this stuff!

So if you forget his name he’s not shy about telling you who he is  “My name is Jerry Lee Lewis and I’m dern sure here to stay ..”

When this came out I was reminded that guys like Jerry Lee could still do it when they wanted too. He is a unique talent and human being.

A firecracker, for sure. I always feel that you can hear his sense of unpredictability in the music… even though you’ve heard the song a million times, it still feels like he could do something wild and unexpected.

Good summation. He never loses his appeal to me. The guy can take any song make it his own and make it sound good.

It has that early E Street sound that those guys had. From those early albums you dug. ‘Sugar’ is like something the band would play if Bruce was late.

Heh! One thing is Bruce is never late. He outlasts everybody. When I saw him a year and a half ago he played for four hours, 2 minutes, no break. He was 66 or 67 at the time.

I remember when I first seen him (Bruce) he had an intermission and came back early while people were still grabbing a drink etc. Him and the band were rocking to Sea Side Bar song or something like that. People started running back to the stage.

You’ll recognize James Burton’s work on this one. CB is a huge Killer fan. When you had your fave vocalists take, I would have Jerry Lee near the top of mine.
