Now how’s this for one of the coolest songs ever? I could listen to the opening groove all night and then Eddie adds some sax, then Les takes the vocals and it takes off.. Man does that sound good. Leroy Vinnegar, bass and Dean Donald, drums lay down the great beat. Les adds some swinging piano, vocals and hip lyrics. Harris, sax and Benny Bailey, trumpet take the solos. Fantastic. Dig this Gene McDaniel’s tune.
This song swings big time. It’s one of CB’s go to lines “compared to what?”. I like saying that. Put it on and catch the groove. Sock it to me Les. This just has so much coolness. Now that’s a piece of music!
Yeah! A great song. Hadn’t thought about it in quite a while.
Didn’t it get a lot of airplay when it came out? I think so.

I can’t remember when i stumbled onto it but it was instant “coolness”. If it didn’t get a lot of airplay it should have.

Cool song. I know it but could not have told you who did it. Being the curious sort, I did a little research. A guy named Gene McDaniels wrote not only this but also Roberta Flack’s “Feel Like Makin’ Love.” (Different from Bad Company tune.)

I always dug the tune. I’m pretty familiar with Eddie Harris’s stuff. He turns up all over records I have. I always thought it was cool when these jazz guys would pop out and cut tunes like this. There’s a good clip of this performance if you can find it..(Curious Doc, did the tune I posted with the RTF take play on your box?)

No, it said it would only play from the site. So I went and found it on YouTube.

Don’t hurt yourself CB. Based on that picture that is attached to your posts, looks like maybe you already got one too many electric shocks. 🙂
