Movie Scene : Monty Python and the The Holy Grail – The brave but dangerous Sir Lancelot

Sir Lancelot finds a note saying “please come and rescue me…I’m being held in Swamp Castle”.  Answering the call he heads to the rescue.  Lancelot  reaches the castle and the shit hits the fan. He proceeds to kill and maim everything he can.  He  reaches the person who wants to be rescued and is a little taken back.  It was not what he expected.  Our brave knight finds out that he has just interrupted a wedding, killing a few guards, guests, wounding the brides father, and kicking the bride in the chest.  He apologizes to the groom’s father who accepts and invites Lancelot for a drink at the reception where he begins to reek more violence on the guests.  The groom’s father quickly regains control and smooths the misunderstanding over  announcing the union between the “Princess and the Brave but dangerous Sir Lancelot”

This is one funny bit.  Terry Jones as Herbert,  Michael Palin as Herbert’s father and John Cleese as “the brave but dangerous Sir Lancelot’  pack in a lot of funny stuff in this scene.  CB was  already starting to lose it on Cleese’s run up to the castle.   Monty Python did some memorable pieces over the years.  This is one of my favorites.  Terry Gilliam and Terry Jones directed this funny flick.  They must have had too much fun!

“He’s come to rescue me father”  “Lets not jump to conclusions”

The scene that gets me is where Arthur fights a knight and cuts off his arms and legs. “You’ve got no arms!” “It’s just a flesh wound.”

How you managed to single out just the one scene is beyond me, CB: I’d say this (and Life of Brian) is one of those where every scene is a pants pisser. This, though, along with The Architect, is one of Cleese’s finest Python moments.

Just the way Palin delivers the “Brave but dangerous ..” gets me. Maybe time for a re watch over the holidays for both ‘Brian’ and ‘Grail’. Mentioning other bits has set off my Python cravings.
