Here’s one of those records CB discovered off an early compilation of rock n roll songs. Another one of those early tunes that hooked me into rock music.
Everything about this song grabs me to the bone. The driving rock beat, piano sprinkled in, Little Richards vocals (does anyone commit like he does), honking sax. Get me a time machine CB wants to go back to this session.
I don’t know how old this tune is but who cares it sounds like it was recorded yesterday. Little Richard was put on earth to do what he does on this song, convert guys and gals like CB to rock n roll!
Still thrilling.

Funny but I had debated doing a Richard post the other day. Why? Because Dec. 5 was his 85th birthday. I saw an interview with him from a few years back. He sounded pretty good. Jerry Lee Lewis is still around too.

Of coarse they are still around. They are both “crazy” good.

Okay, that doesn’t make any sense at all. Otherwise, Chuck Berry would still be here. Also, back when I did my Sam Phillips piece I dug up a different Jerry Lee ‘Shakin’ from the Steve Allen show. I like how at 2:00 he sends his chair flying, at 2:03 it comes flying back!

That’s *&^%^$#%* hilarious. Didn’t you know that Jerry Lee was an amateur magician on the side. I’m still laughing at the chair thing. Chuck and Elvis are still here. I read it at the checkout counter yesterday. All those guys are the best. Bat shit crazy with talent and uniqueness to burn.

Elvis lives in my basement. I’m pretty sure it was Steve Allen that threw the chair and some other stuff back. He was a wild man in his day. And, BTW, a pianist and songwriter.

I think I heard that bout Steve. Give Elvis a hug for me.

I’ll be sure to do that. He’s a little cranky. But so would you be if I kept you locked up downstairs and made you sing ‘Love Me Tender’ to me once a week.

Other than perhaps James Brown, I can’t think of any other artist with the intensity of Little Richard – it’s like the man was truly living his songs while playing them!
There are so many great classic rock & roll tunes Richard has performed. As you said, his music just grabs you to the bone! He was also a great show man.
Check out this cool clip of “Long Tall Sally,” which is one of my favorite Richard tunes: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jqxNSvFMkag

Yeah thanks I’ve seen it but always good to see it again. Jim was talking about Jerry Lee Lewis. There is a great clip of him singing ‘Whole Lot Of Shakin’ live in I think Hamburg. Rock n roll at it’s best.

Not sure where this clip of Jerry Lee Lewis was captured, but it’s an extended and pretty intense live version of Whole Lotta Shakin Going On! 🙂

Magical stuff, eh? Little Richard is one of the very best. Whenever I get in the mood to listen to Elvis, I think “screw that…”. This is rock n roll.

Yeah it has a certain something extra.

Age bonus. Little Richard shows here again that he probably had a hyperkinetic syndrome.
