We see Harry from the bad guys POV. Harry is delivering ransom money and is standing next to a big cement cross. The bad guy is hidden and gives Harry instructions on what to do. “One bad move and I’ll kill you and the girl both, understand?”. Harry follows the instructions. He is told to put his face up next to the cross. He does and then things go bad and get real nasty.
Don Siegel sets this up perfectly, camera work, music, tension, performances. What we get here is a great scene. A slice of one of CB’s favorite good guy/bad guy duos. Andy Robinson as Scorpio pulls off a beauty of a performance. This guy is nuts! Believable Nuts! This scene (and movie) has stayed with me for a long time. A little visit to the park late at night is never a good idea especially when there’s some guy running around with a red ski mask on.

Dirty Harry, unquestionably one of Clint Eastwood’s most memorable roles and films.

Agreed. Don Siegel and him were a good team. You have to have a nasty bad guy for things to work and Robinson delivers that.

These old action movies are fun. Clint Eastwood is always good. Remember seeing a lot his spaghetti western movies in the late 60’s.

I watched a lot of those movies from 60’s/70’s. Those spaghetti ones are great. Ennio Morricone adds the great music for us.

Boy, that is one nasty scene. Siegel was a good director. Original ‘Body Snatchers’ plus one of my favorite Eastwood flicks, “Escape from Alcatraz.’

“Nasty” huh? Like I was saying to Fox, Andy Robinson was bad news. You know it’s working when you can’t wait for Harry to punch his clock. Siegel? You are a sly one Doc. You know your films. That original ‘Snatchers’ is really good (remakes not bad). One of my fave lines in ‘Alcatraz’. Clints character is asked “How was your childhood?” “Short”.

Clint’s the man-of-few-words badass.

Like certain musicians I lose track of him then pick him up again. He directed that dark ‘Mystic River’ in your neighborhood.

There’s a place we go to eat right near the Mystic River, just outside of Boston. Always think of that movie

Boston is such a great location.

Yeah, it’s funny though that every Beantown movie is about these neighborhood punks and low-level thieves. Half of that is crap and there’s a whole upscale Boston they totally miss filming. Last one was maybe Thomas Crown Affair.

Yeah, I have one coming up but I’ll keep you guessing.

One of my favorite Eastwood movies. His performance here is standard Eastwood stuff, but I thought Andy Robinson was absolutely chilling. That scene by the cross, and the one in the football stadium are classics. “I have my rights!!!” Vigilante movies (“Death Wish”) seemed to be the thing back then…violent crime must have been peaking in the U.S.!

I’ve watched a few flicks and Andy’s performance at the time and now still had to beat. The Kezar stadium scene (I did an early take on that) is a killer not only the performance but the way it was shot. The abandoned stadium added to the eeriness of it.
Yeah it’s one of Clints best. So many films back then had an impact for me. ‘Harry’ kind of started a trend. Some good some ..well you know.

And then 15 years later Andy Robinson goes to ‘the other side’ and plays a liberal cop in the 1986 Sly Stallone actioner COBRA.

I seen Andy pop up on a few other things (Not Cobra) but his performance in this film is hard to beat. He’s in CB’s hall of fame for bad asses. Thanks for dropping by. I will scoot over to see what you have going on.

I really liked this one, but it’s no ‘Play Misty..’.

A female nut-bar in that one. Clint gave equal time to both sexes.
