Music Single : Fortunate Son – CCR

download (21)

CB had no idea what this song was about when he first heard it.  It rocked and it was CCR and that was good enough for him.  It wasn’t until quite a while later that he clued in and heard what Fogerty was singing.

The opening is classic Creedence, everything in the song is classic Creedence.  When CB finally clued into what John was saying the song became even more of a favorite.  It struck a nerve. He was singing about my class and he was rocking with an emotional bite.  The song is sung and played with lots of feeling.  Listen to John wail.  This song is busting at the seems with all sorts of emotion.  I never get tired of it.  A favorite for sure.

CB hates to be predictable but this tune goes perfectly with the Burns/Novick film.  I think I’ll listen to it again right now.

Total agreement. Possibly CCR’s finest moment, and one of those (few) songs you want to hear again immediately! So fitting for your viewing.

The song just won’t go way. I like your review better. Less than 25 words. You must be a Burns fan. I was thinking of his Jazz film and your interest in that music.

The song that got me into CCR. A scorching and scathing gem. From a great album too… Effigy is another fave.

Excellent song! I believe this was the first song about Vietnam, that CCR published. It was about people who were the sons of rich fathers and dodge for the service in Vietnam. The text also fits perfectly for today …

A great one, CB. It was a Vietnam protest song but an artful one. As to your Vietnam War Ken Burns post, I’m gonna hold off till I watch the entire series. It is a real commitment to watch as it’s 10 episodes, 18 hours and I am only up to episode five.

It is a “great one” Doc. Yeah I would really be interested in your take on the film. All sorts of things must be stirring in you. Lots to digest. Your perspective is awaited.

I agree. Every time you do that CB starts to wonder about the others.

I’m bluffing, I’m not that organized! ‘Today Your Love, Tomorrow The World’ by Ramones would be in there though and ‘I Wanna Be Your Dog’.

Now that’s funny. I was listening to Uncle Tupelo’s version of ‘Dog’ yesterday. Some good old alt country for you. Two good choices. I see where your heads at. Top five from Bulgaria?

An all-time classic that will never lose its relevance. Nearly perfect, in my opinion.

It’s always cool throwing these songs out there and see what kind of reaction they get. I love this cut and I’m not alone. Thanks for chiming in.
