It all starts on the parallel bars and goes for a shit from there. Clouseau tries his hand at his old “specialty” the bars. He ends up flinging himself off and down some stairs into a study where he doesn’t miss a beat and goes right into questioning the staff who are gathered there.
What an entrance and what an interrogation. You know when he’s caressing the bars that it’s going to go bad. There are so many good bits in this scene. Slapstick with a little danger thrown in. When Sellers hits the bee keeper with the mace ball, CB was killing himself. Sellers manages to squeeze more comedy into this scene than CB could handle. Peter Sellers is a Babyhead fave. This is a Seller’s shmoz at it’s best.
You want a good belly laugh, watch this. Looking for high brow humor, not here. Just be careful and keep your head up. That glove and mace are deadly. Just ask the bee keeper, the bee and the Steinway.

Funny scene. This along with the first Pink Panther and A Shot in the Dark are classics. I don’t throw the term ‘genius’ around lightly but if anybody was, it was Sellers. (There is no greater testament to this IMHO, than Dr. Strangelove.) I recently wrote about a George Martin biography and he and Sellers worked together quite a bit before Sellers broke out. I will have to dig these movies out.

Yeah Sellers was an interesting dude. CB is a sucker for the kind of stuff he does in this one. Low brow , but I can’t help it. ‘Being There’ was a different turn for Pete but I really liked it also. I just love how dangerous he’s in this one.

Probably a comic genius, although the Clouseau movies never grabbed me. Have you seen “The Party”? Another Blake Edwards-Peter Sellers-Henry Mancini teaming, it’s outrageous and hilarious, in my top 3 all-time. Instead of a bumbling French detective, he’s a bumbling Indian actor, and Sellers improvises much of the dialogue. Supposedly, Sellers and Edwards weren’t speaking at the time, and their communications had to be relayed via third parties.
Tying in with rock ‘n’ roll, Sellers made an earlier (British) film called “Heaven’s Above” with a young Steve Marriott. It’s not as wacky as his later films, but it’s fun seeing a pre-Small Faces Marriott. There’s also Sellers’ unique version of “Can’t Buy Me Love.”

‘The Party’ is on the re-watch cycle. The ‘Panther’ flicks are goofy but have some good bits for me.
I don’t know the Marriott film. He supposedly played the artful Dodger as a kid (Now that is perfect casting). I will definitely check that out. I’ve seen a lot of Sellers films . ‘The Lady Killers’ is an old favorite. He is more subdued. It might have been his first film. I like a lot of that cinema from over there. Thanks for dropping by and for the lead,

A couple days after watching your video I got a chance to see the whole movie again (thanks to you) Funnier then shit beginning to end. Was shocked to see that Leslie Ann Downs was Olga. I didn’t even realize it was her until the credits ran.

No problem. That’s kinda what we do here. Remind and turn each other on to old and new stuff. Yeah the ‘Panther’ films are good for a laugh. Interesting to see who pops up in watching this stuff.
