Movie Scene : One Flew Over the Cukoo’s Nest – Turkle Hides

7751438_orig

The patients are having a little late night going away party.  The night orderly, Turkle is making his rounds and tries to break it up.  He starts to herd the patients out of the nurses room and quickly herds them back in when he hears the night supervisor coming.  The nurse knows something’s up and starts to call Turkle’s name.  She gets no response.  We cut to the nurses room where everyone is hiding in the dark.  There are whispered conversations going on, wondering why Turkle doesn’t answer. He doesn’t answer because he’s hiding with the patients.  He finally goes out to face the music.

CB laughs his head off every time he thinks of this scene.  The whispered conversation in the dark, crowded nurses room is priceless. “He’s probably jerking off”.  Scatman Crothers is beautiful as Turkle.  His delivery and commitment to the scene is perfect.  Totally out of his element trying to get the shit storm together.  Give yourself a treat and pile into the nurses station with Scatman and the gang.  It is one funny scene.

He’s having a bad day (or night) at his “fucking job!”  Priceless.

Only Chief Bromden can handle beating Nurse Ratched at her own game.

Another great classic. You’re a funny one Mr. CB. There’s a bunch of great scenes in this movie but you pick the one I can’t even remember.

While I know even less about movies than I do about music, “One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest” definitely is one of my favorite pictures. Jack Nicholson is just a brilliant actor. Of his movies I’ve watched, I still like “The Shining” the most. “Cuckoo’s Nest” may be second.

Jack was part of some of my favorite films. I loved the stuff he was making at this time. This scene here is about Scatman (in the Shining also), he nails it.
Like yourself it’s not being “all knowing” about music/film, it’s knowing what hits and moves US. All that matters. From your station it’s pretty clear that you are passionate about what you like.

You know, you’re making a great point here. I’ll never be a musicologist, and that’s just fine!

While it’s nice being knowledgeable, ultimately, this blogging business is really about having fun. And, if in the course of it you meet some other folks who share your passion, it’s even better!

Yup! I’m finding all sorts of new music and being reminded of music I haven’t heard in a while. Plus having a few chuckles.

Ratched chills me to the bone. My fave film ever, my fave scene is when they go out on the boat.

Pretty scary to be in a position where someone has that much control. The film conveyed that with “chilling” results. You could feature so many scenes from the film. I’ve been on fishing trips like that. I just like the idea of Turkle hiding, like what was he thinking?

Maybe a 1537 take on ‘Cukoo’s Nest’? Hmmm.

It’s possible, as long as you don’t mind waiting for a while.

Maybe a CB take on ‘Five Easy Pieces’ or ‘King of Marvin Gardens?’

Both great flicks. ‘Marvin’ has the Jack/Bruce combo which is a CB fave.. The movie is not for conventional tastes. ‘Pieces’ is just a really good flick. Bruce did some great work back them. Probably to slow for most folks but we do get to see Jack give it to the waitress. A Doc take wouldn’t be out of order. Shake things up.

(On another note we lost our buddy Walter. He left us a wealth of great music.)

My initial thought was to say I don’t do movies. Who do I think I am, CB? But maybe the occasional movie review ain’t a bad idea. Especially since I do write about music movies and the pieces in the title are classical pieces. As to Becker, yeah, tremendous loss. I’m not doing a piece on him but I’ll acknowledge him in my next post. People are already finding my older Dan posts which are my statement.

What I look for are peoples individual takes and feel for a particular piece of music/band/artist/ film. That’s what’s interesting to CB whether I like the stuff or not.. We can all go to the boring generic info (it has it’s use) but the Docs of the world give it to you straight. Most of the people (only a few) don’t slam anybody too much which I like. Certain things might not be my bag but to hear someone talk about something that moved them is cool even if it sound like somebody scratching their fingernails on a chalk board. All I can say is the odd DOC film review would interest old CB.

Yeah Walter. I have a SD take in the can. Maybe I’ll fast track it. I’ll pop over to see what folks are dropping on your piece.

The chicken salad scene alone is worth the price of admission. I think people need to be reminded every now and again of what a voracious actor Nicholson is and was in those days.

He was pumping out great work back then. But the whole flick is great. Odd ball city, Karen Black doing the country singer thing. The crap lady hitch hiker. There, you did it again Doc. A re-watch soon.

That’s funny. Did you play a role? I loved the soundtrack in the film. I think it was the first time I ever heard the saw played.

A behind the scenes man. The unsung Herero’s of the entertainment industry. It’s a great play. Mac is a great role. I remember when this movie came out. Michael Douglas was one of the producers. There was talk that Kirk wanted the role. Jack was made for it.

CB All though most of us have seen this film to many times and counting you pick a simple scene that most of us forgot about. Now I need to watch it again and again since I have good reason to. Thanks CB

This scene is a fave (obviously) for CB. The movie also. I will eventually get to the whole film. Your right DCW it needs to be watched again and again. I think the very first take I ever did was Jack pissed off because they wouldn’t put the ball game on for him. A classic.
