Single : Debris – Ronnie Lane’s Slim Chance

Man do I love this song.  CB gets a little sentimental with this one.  Tears up.  All I can say is this is one of my all time favorite songs.  The images it conjures, the feelings it stirs up and just the love that comes out of this tune.

Ronnie Lane sings about his old man and it’s just beautiful from start to finish.  The band (Slim Chance) he put together gives it great accompaniment.   It’s all subtle letting Lane take the spotlight.  CB really can’t put into words how good this song is.  He just puts it on and lets it do it’s magic. I love this live take.  It shows Ronnie living the song.  (A little add on at the end of the song if you stay tuned in)

“I heard your foot steps at the front door and that old familiar love song..”

( Check out the original Faces version also fantastic! ).

This tune I know from the Faces version. Yeah, a good, moving tune. And that ending. Ooh La LA!

I know you’re up on your Faces. They were a good band. But like we talked about ‘Rough Mix’ got me into Ronnie.

I have the Faces version, too. I’m on the lookout for original, vinyl Slim Chance, but they’re hard to come by in the states.

I know you’re a faces guy. They really were a great band. I went back to them after I discovered Lane. I missed those SC records also (picked up the cds). Have a couple Lane solos and a soundtrack that Ron Wood and him did. ‘Mahoney’s Last Stand’. I’ll probably feature a few more Lane songs as I go. ‘Kushty Rye’ comes to mind. Nice to hear from you Pete

I’m actually more of a Small Faces fan, although I do like them after they were no longer “small.” I think I have every Small Faces song available, on either vinyl or CD. “Ogden’s Nut Gone Flake” is a rock classic that somehow fell under the radar (I hope to review it next year).

Long ago I read that Lane had a heated grudge against Rod Stewart, claiming that “Mandolin Wind” is mostly him. It does sound a lot like something he’d have written.

I meant ‘Small Faces’. I like them also. If you can’t climb over your friends to make it who can you climb over? I’m taking Ronnies side. Don’t have a lot of old Rod in the pile. The early ones but after, no.

An amazing, beautiful song. Apart from The Faces version I had only heard live versions of it. I didn’t realise Slim Chance had done a studio version of it. Good to know. I’ve only really started getting into his “solo” stuff in the last couple of years but it’s pretty magical. ‘Annie’ from Rough Mix is also particularly moving.

Rough Mix and ‘Annie’ were the sparks that started it for me. Ronnie’s vibe bit me hard. This song is has it all, great lyrics, playing and delivery. Catch the doc on RL if you can . It’s worth the watch

What I said about Jack goes for Ronnie also. It’s just waiting for you. The cool thing about this cut Thom, is it’s live. RL and the band are not faking it.

It’s good day if you catch Slim Chance on the radio. In fact it’s a slim chance that would happen.
