Music Single : L.A. Freeway – Guy Clark

download (50)

“Say goodbye to the landlord for me, the sons a bitches always bored me”.

When Guy sang the opening few lines of this song I was with him.  I was hittin’ the road.  It’s just played with a real subtle, easy delivery, the fiddle doesn’t hurt. I thought I would pull this gem out to go with Aphoristic’s take on ‘Townes’.  Guy and Van Zandt were buddies and this one suits them.  I went to see the two of them together one time.  I got half of the duo, the other half, Townes, they wouldn’t let across the border.  Guy put on a hell of a show despite his buddy sitting at the border.  He performed the whole night with a big grin on his face at the bullshit of it all.  I was kinda thinking these guys were used to that kinda stuff.  He played this one.  It sounded real good.

Another great song penned by one of those special American singer/songwriters.  This song has been in CB’s head for a long time.  It’s a good one.  “So pack up all your dishes…”

Mastermind of early Byrds. Gene Clark left the band before the first England-tour because he was afraid of flying. There is a very nice album with the banjo player Doug Dillard – laidback and soulful

SORRY CB! I made a mistake with the two Clarks. Guy Clark is, of course, one of the classics of country- and folkmusic.

I like both Gene and Guy. I thought I’d pull out ‘L.A. Freeway’ to go with the Van Zandt piece. This song puts me in a good mood.

Yep, Guy’s debut album has some fine tracks. It’s that old time feeling. Honkytonk or desperated, waitin for the train in better times, sentimentality included…

He wrote so many good tunes. Another one of those special Texas songwriters. This tune is just one of the many i like.
