CB Where Art Thou?

maxresdefault

First up at the drive in is ‘O Brother Where Art Thou?’ CB just revisited this a couple nights ago.  He liked it the first time around and probably liked it even more this time.  It’s a throw back to the old road movies.

I was along for the ride right from the start.  So many good bits and laughs.  The sense of time and place, performances, music, sense of humor.  From the “singing into the can” to picking up Tommy Johnson after he made the “deal with the devil”.  I got some good laughs out of this one.   There is a whole herd of dumb – shits in this story. The best line I’ve heard for a while was Delmar’s ‘We thought you was a toad”.  That is forever in my head.  Even my best gal was chuckling.

I’ve been a Coen guy since ‘Blood Simple’.  They have a pretty good batting average with me.  T – Bone Burnett puts together a great soundtrack and any time I hear ‘You are My Sunshine’ I’m in a good mood.  Put on your overalls and go for a good laugh with “The Soggy Bottom Boys”.  CB is a card carrying “Soggy Bottom Boy”

(Get some refreshments, use the facilities, stretch your legs and get back for the second feature).

An odd but good movie. Showed Clooney’s gift for comedy. Haven’t seen it in years. Sparked a mini-revival in that form of folk/Americana music. “Blood Simple” was my intro to the Coens, too.

The whole Robert Johnson thing was cool. Coen’s are pretty in tune guys. The first time I ever seen Clooney. Liked his work. Looks like he doesn’t take himself too seriously. The music was great! Good flick for a laugh.

I liked this one a lot, I think the Coens could do no wrong up until this point.

Yup. One of my heirs was on my case to watch ‘Hail Caesar” A few chuckles in that one. The Ray Fiennes scene directing his hillbilly actor is a keeper.
