Yup that’s right. Tom Jones and he kills it with just a killer take on the John Lee Hooker tune. Guitar, drums and vocals that’s it. A stripped down piece of great music. Amazing when the material and inspiration come together. Magic!
Tom is getting lots of help and he feeds off of it. CB gets goose bumps listening to this. Ethan Johns (I think) guitar is awesome. His riff opens it up and sets the tone. Jeremy Stacey keeps it real simple on the skins. Johns locks into a riff , then cuts loose while Jones is feeling it and gives the pipes a work out. Man what a great sound.
CB has heard some great Hooker covers, this is up there with the best. It is so cool when a guy like Jones cuts loose and puts his talent and voice to something like this. Good work Tommy boy. You might have a future in the biz. This is great music no matter which way you slice it. Sung and played by guys that are feeling the John Lee vibe. Babyhead thinks so anyways.
“I’m going down to the crossroads with no devil will I make a deal….maybe there ain’t no heaven..no burning hell…”
(Lots of great versions of Tom and the boys doing this song floating around. This cut comes off the album ‘Praise and Blame’. Below is live from Letterman. It’s good)
The greatest living Welshman. ‘Nuff said.

He certainly puts his homegrown pipes to this one.

You mentioned this to me once CB. I listened and really dug it. Tom has that mainstream image but he has been singing the blues forever. A friend of mine went to see him not too long ago. Her Facebook report? The panties were flying. 😂

You want an image? You know ‘Mumbling About’ in the UK? Did the Springsteen series? Check out his latest post and go find the album cover. Keep the barf bag handy.

I’m laughing my head of at your comment after i saw the cover. I want that publicist working for me. “I have this idea that might work for your new record. Keep an open mind”

You maybe some my comment? I found out later they’re a local band. My son knows them. Says they’re kinda odd. Nudist camp or something.

I started this so I get what I deserve. (How about a barbecue reunion of the first Grateful Dead concert goers)

You remember the ‘blowed up real good’ thing, yes?

SCTV I think. They had great musical guests. I don’t think Tom Jones ever made it on there.

One of my great memories of my childhood is Jones’ TV show. My parents were from Ireland and so they got a big kick that a Welsh coal mining hick like Jones was a star. My favorite memory was he always had his bow tie and shirt undone by end of show.

That’s a great story. I didn’t realize he was such a rocker. I just discovered tha, in the last few years. 1537 commented on that a while back, saying that’s where his roots were. He proves it on this one.
Since we’re playing collaboration, I’m pretty sure this backing duo or at least Stacey play with your buddy Adams.

Ethan Johns produced Adams first two solo albums.

Now you are setting off bells. He was the Who guy. Anyways I think it’s cool when musicians like this get together with a common bond and make great music. I absolutely love this cut (and album).

The cool thing is the guys he’s playing with. It is so cool that this kind of music is being played by younger guys that get it. You can see Tom just digging it. The whole album is pretty good. Definitely a nice surprise.
