Movie Scene : Network – Howard is mad as hell.

download (3)

Howard Beale shows up to work wet, in his pajamas, rain coat and crazy.

He’s had it and he’s going to let everyone know it.  Live on tv.  The worlds going crazy and it’s venting through Howard.  “I’m a human being god dammit, my life has value”.  Howard’s mad as hell and he’s not going to take it anymore and he wants everyone else to do the same.  “Things gotta change but first you gotta get mad”

From the moment Peter Finch walks into the building he is a man possessed.  He is focused and totally absorbed in his character and committed.  What a great piece of work by a fantastic actor.  His whole performance captures anyone who watches.  All the other characters in the film are hanging on everything he does and says.  So was CB.  You know when they cue Howard it’s going to be magic.  He’s not pissing around.  Great, great work by Finch.  Great scene and great film by Sidney Lumet.

CB feels like Howard Beale sometimes .  Right on Howard!!!  Don’t take any shit.

    Great film.
And how’s this for synchronicity, CB: the part 2 of Atomic Rooster goes up tonight… with a still from Network!

Now you have me really curious (CB is thinking what still?). Atomic Rooster/Network? That is some kind of “synchronicity” for sure. Very cool!

You’re hitting all the great ones, CB. In the way that a lot of us music bloggers are keeping the history of great music alive, you’re doing it for movies.

“That’s because I’m mad as hell and can’t take it anymore” Howard walking into the station, soak and wet in his pajamas is the best. Hey man it’s easy when you like something like we do. I’m popping over to get ‘Misunderstood’

I watched this last year. Was pleasantly surprised how well it holds up. Still seems pretty relevant too!

Performances galore. William Holden is one of my faves and he gives a great understated turn in this one. “Relevent” yes. I can’t turn on the TV without swearing at it.

And YOU have meddled with the primal forces of nature, and YOU… WILL… ATONE! Am I getting through to you, Mr. Beale? You get up on your little twenty-one inch screen and howl about America and democracy. There is no America. There is no democracy. There is only IBM, and ITT, and AT&T, and DuPont, Dow, Union Carbide, and Exxon.

Like I said, great performances. Great writing. Was that before or after Ned went hillbilly? After I think. Network is coming up for the old CB one two.
