“Good morning Captain”, a little guitar strum and then that vocal. That’s all it took.
CB must have some hillbilly in his blood because he fell hard for this one.. Whatever these guys were drinking CB wanted some. Somehow I came across or was given a record with all these old rock n roll songs and this was on it. CB played the hell out of it.
Laughing and jumping around doing his Jethro Bodean. This song rocked and put a smile on my face at the same time. Stripped down, bare and fun. Some good guitar licks in to boot. CB always thought rock n roll was supposed to be fun. This fits the bill. No high brow shit here just an old “Mule Skinner”.
“Hey little water boy……”
Always wondered what a mule skinner was. Finally googled it. A muleskinner is a professional mule driver whose sole purpose was to keep the mules moving. The term “skinner” is slang for someone who might “skin” or outsmart a mule. Mules have a characteristic of being very stubborn so outsmarting them to make them move used skill, wit, and a type of determination.

I’m getting a kick out of that comment. ‘muleskinner’ shows up in a bunch of films and books I’ve come across. Mules have a well deserved bad reputation. I’m going to listen to the song again. (I’ve lost count)

This is Ground Control to Major Tom. I’m stepping through the door. And I’m floating in a most peculiar way. (CB knows what this is about)

I really like this baby too. To be played back to back with ‘Tallahasse Lassie’.

I had a buddy that use to go ape for ‘Tallahasse Lassie’ and ‘Ubangi Stomp’. The guy had all sorts of taste.

I have absolutely no idea what a ‘Ubangi Stomp’ is. It sounds like something you’d definitely be better off declining south of the Mason-Dixon line.

I asked my Ma what a ‘Ubangi Stomp’ was and she cuffed me one.

I’m laughing my ass off! You speak my language. There is folks out there that think “wraslin” is fake and space travel is real.

I’m going to shake things up a bit. Run something by you later about using one of your takes as a guest spot. Down the road.
