Single : Ghost of Tom Joad – Rage Against The Machine

Man do I like this version.  They took a song  I really dig and made it their own.  The energy they pump into it just nails it.  It’s loud, angry and in your face.  You know as the song continues it’s just going to get better.  Tim and Brad lay it down on the bass and drums,  Zack is feeling it and Morello  busts out some nasty licks.

CB liked this version the first time he heard it and he hasn’t wavered.   They pulled from Steinbeck’s and Springsteen’s vibe and pumped a new energy into it.  Fantastic!

This song should be listened to loud!

    I love this take on it too, the way it ends is particularly great – in fact the whole Renegades LP is an angry treat.

      The CD I have of this cut came as a single with a VHS tape I bought of a live show Rage did. ‘Renegades’ is everything you say it is. My copy is missing. I’m in the middle of an investigation on it’s whereabouts. Two prime suspects.

      They certainly took it in another direction. I wonder what Springsteen thought when he first heard it? He has Morello in his band now. Maybe that answers my question.

    Springsteen dug it. Yeah, Morello was in his touring band but I think that was one-time. The Boss already has, like, 17 guitarists in his band. I think that in addition to being balls-out rockers, Bruce and Morello are a couple of Tom Joad-like guys who rail against injustice. Which, you know, good for them, eh?

      I figured he would. I haven’t kept up with Bruce like I use to. I know that the Band has got bigger. Bruce has always put his money where his mouth is as far as helping others. He’s a good guy that way. I guess Morello is the same.

    Never been a big fan of “Rage Against The Machine” but I do like this tune.

      The tune captures a different vibe. Rage taps into something here. I get your feel about he band. We are on the same page for so much of the same music we’re bound to differ on a couple. I just really like their hard rock edge.

    The best version of this tune, CB. I could listen to this on repeat. Such a crackin’ tune.
