Album : Kinks Greatest Hits – The Kinks

download-8

CB was familiar with The Kinks from songs he heard on the radio, ‘You Really Got Me’, ‘Sunny Afternoon’, ‘Lola’.  So when he ventured out to buy a Kinks album he was overwhelmed by the choice of titles.  He grabbed ‘Greatest Hits’ it made sense to him.

What did he get?  Exactly what he was looking for.  More music from this band that had caught his attention.  Only 10 songs but every one of  them added to his already growing Kinks appreciation.  He couldn’t get enough of these guys.  They played and sang cool songs plus they really rocked when they wanted too.

It was the first time hearing most of these songs for CB and it made him want to get everything they ever recorded (which he eventually did).  For now he immersed himself in this record.  From the 1st cut ‘A Well Respected Man’ to the last cut “You Really Got Me’ CB wore this record out.  Multiple plays and it just got better.

The back cover gave information on the band  which was all new to Babyhead.  Cool to learn where these guys came from and a little about their histories.  But as cool as it was to put faces to the music, it was still the music that did it.

So you know what was next?  The next album.  Where to start?  But first CB still had more listening to do with this album.  The Kinks were becoming one of those special bands that he couldn’t shake even if he wanted to and why would he want to?

Hits are a GREAT place to start with The Kinks. In fact, I’ve not really gone beyond them!

Kinks have always done it for me. I climbed on board big time around the ‘Sleepwalker’ ‘Misfits’ albums. Seen them one time with a band from your stomping grounds. Angel City. Great show.

Angel City not ringing a bell. Is that a band? A venue?

Neil will probably have a little insight on Angel City. Australian band. Think they were originally just Angel. Made some great music. Great front man Doc Neeson. Check out ‘Marseilles’ it rocks.

Am I ever gonna see your face again? They also went out as Angels From Angel City in the 90s.

Yup! I think I have 3 albums. ‘Take a Long Line’ had another great riff. Any other tidbits? I know you are bent to the heavier stuff. Thanks for dropping by Agent 1537.

Ah, yes. The Kinks. Who doesn’t love ’em? My grandmother loves ’em. My cat loves ’em. I’ll be doing a long-overdue post or two on them sometime in the New Year. I wore out a double vinyl album of theirs called The Kink Kronikles once upon a time.

Baby Honasmoochables loves them, Moon Head loves them, Princesses Falda loves them and of coarse Big Earl loves them. The whole CB family loves them. I would very much dig your take on them. Kink Kronikles is a must.

Kink Kronikles is a story in itself. Made for the American market. Fewer hits, lesser-known singles. I haven’t listened to it in ages but I will soon. I spent hours and hours on that. I’m likin’ Big Earl more every day and the CB crew sounds quality.

Already I’m getting an education on a band that has been with me forever. Didn’t know that about ‘Kronikles’. Big Earl is a real piece of work so is Moon Boy.

Thanks Jersey. I have a couple albums by them. They opened for the Kinks and were very good. Doc had energy to burn and they got the crowd going for a great night.

They had a very devoted following down here throughout the 80’s. I believe that in recent times they reunited for a bunch of shows.

What i love about this blog thing. CB gets some great input. Thanks for the hometown touch. While you’re here there’s that great Kink’s tune off Arthur about your homeland plus the reference from ‘Victoria’.

I think I heard that. Well I’ll have to listen to a bit of Doc. Some bands didn’t like to have quality opening acts. Hats off to the Kinks. I’ll pop over and see what’s up in Jerseyland

Ah, The Kinks. One of my all-time faves. I was lucky to see them in late 1995, one of the final shows they ever performed. It brought tears to my eyes.

Yeah, I’m with you. I caught them a few times around then. They would have been doing stuff off of ‘Misfits’ and ‘Sleepwalker’ two really good records. Without question one of my favorite bands and some of my favorite music. Seen Ray a few years ago. Still putting on a great live show. (They had the privilege of you buying a ticket)
