A lot of history between these two characters ends with this scene. Steve Judd is dying from a gunshot wound. Gil Westrum spends a few moments with him and reconciles their damaged relationship.
Joel McCrae and Randolph Scott are perfect as a couple of old partners who have seen and been through it all. It’s a great scene between two real good subtle actors who have the age and character to pull it off. Cincinnati Babyhead couldn’t have cast it better. Lucian Ballard’s cinematography is beautiful. Sam Peckinpah knows this stuff.
Watch this scene from a good duster

An almost perfect film.
To be justified!

Love this film for so many reasons. This scene put a stamp on it. Endings are hard but Sam knew his stuff. Thom you are a rare breed to be commenting on this film. ( I’m up to date on Jukebox. thoroughly enjoyed it. Maybe some of your favorite films could make a guest appearance. I’d be curious.)

I might just do that – My Darling Clementine, Ordet, An American Tragedy, The Wind etc!

Just watched ‘Clementine’ recently. Do a soundtrack piece and slip in the movie. You did a scene from ‘On the Waterfront’on one of your takes and it was right on. “If They Move Kill ‘Em!” Sam bio. “Print the Legend” Ford bio. Think you’d dig them. Ford has deep roots in your neck of the woods.

‘High Country’ is on the re-watch cycle. Sam is one of my favorite directors. No one cast western better than he did. Now you got me wanting to watch it again.
