Album : Meddle – Pink Floyd

This album was recommended to Cincinnati Babyhead by a friend who was exploring all sorts of music.  He knew what kind of music Babyhead was listening to and thought this Pink Floyd album might interest him. He was right.

Great opening sound and CB got caught up in it.  It was different.  Lots going on but it still had that hard edge that CB liked.  Great guitar.  He liked the distorted vocal and the lyric. Little off the wall but that appealed to him.

2nd cut is a complete change of pace.  Softer sound with a great voice.  Was digging these Floyd guys.  ‘Fearless’ followed.  Another cool tune. ” Fearlessly the idiot faced the crowd…smiling”.  Is that what the crowd noise was all about in the song?

‘San Tropez’ became a CB fave.  A song his old man would have liked.  So far these guys are all over the map with their style and sound. Last cut on side one.  A dog takes the lead on a blues tune.

Flipping over to side two and ‘Meddle’  his attention.  Only one song ‘Echoes’.  CB was in for the ride and he was in for a musical trip.  It starts of with sonar pings and then builds to a heavy sound.  They start to cut loose with a heavy beat.  Drums, bass, organ and some great guitar. They really cook in this section of the song Loved it.  They stay in this groove for a while then trip out into some bird music.  A long note on the organ brings it back to the music.  The voice cuts back in and it sounds good.  Yeah.

A different sound experience for Babyhead.  A whole new direction adding to his musical tastes.  He liked what he heard.  News sounds but it still had that hard edge that he liked. He liked this record and this band.  More of these guys for sure.

Thanks Georgie Porrgie.

( Shortly after his intro to this music, Georgie and CB snuck into a dump of a movie theater to catch a couple flicks.  One was ‘Pink Floyd live at Pompeii’.  Check it out.  It blew CBs mind. Felt like Floyd was giving a private concert. These guys were cool. Wonder what the people that lived near there thought? Freaked out probably or maybe they went out and bought the record. “Georgie what kind of tobacco is that I’m smelling in here?” )

Cb Love “Live at Pompeii” what a place to film a movie. Saw a bunch of photos a few months back showing what it was like when David played there earlier this year. To bad they cut “Echoes” into two parts ( maybe because Echoes” is my favorite Floyd tune of all time).on the film though.

No kidding. Absolutely dig the whole idea of what they did. Could you imagine sitting there and being part of that on the day? I guess the film gives us a good taste. “Meddle’ like the first ELP album hooked me onto their music.. I can’t get enough of Gilmour’s guitar.
