Pike wakes up in a whore house and is getting dressed. He looks over at the young hooker he spent the night with. She’s giving herself a sponge bath. She’s young enough to be his daughter, granddaughter. He hears a baby cry and looks over and sees the baby in it’s bed. He looks back to the young woman. The look in his eyes, his body language tells a story. He grabs the bottle from the night before and takes a swig. It’s not tasting like it used to either. He hears his buddies in the next room haggling with one of the other hookers. He walks over to that room, takes in the scene. Looks at his friends. They look back at him and clue in. “Lets go”. Pike goes back to his room and finishes dressing. He gives the young girl one more look. It’s haunting.
What a great piece of film making. Probably Cincinnati Babyhead’s all time favorite allscene. Peckinpah nails it. All elements of film-making contribute to pull it off. Very little dialogue. The music that’s layered over the scene is beautiful. The camera does the work here but the ace in the hole for the scene is Holden. He was the perfect actor at that time and place. He has the weight and experience to carry it. What he portrays speaks volumes about the character’s life. Film acting at it’s best.
Perfect!
A great moment to pick from an outstanding film. Another fave moment of mine is Robert Ryan’s “We’re after men, and I wish to God I was with them”
Speaking of Ryan, I saw an absolutely fantastic movie of his recently ‘Day Of The Outlaw’. Seen that one? I think it will become a big favourite of mine.

Oh yeah. RR has some great moments in the film. I’m going to feature the end scene where Edmond O’Brien rides out at the end and Ryan is sitting against the wall. “Me and the boys got some work to do…”. Ryan has a little chuckle.
Thanks for the ‘Outlaw’ It will be on the top of the list. A little embarrassed to say i haven’t seen it and I’m a big RR guy. Thanks. Always looking for films like this. Thanks.

I’m embarrassed to say that Outlaw and WB are my only brushes with Ryan. He really is excellent though so I will be on the hunt for more of his films.

I won’t over load you but ‘Bad Day at Blackrock’ is a must. The Naked Spur, The Racket, Crossfire……. really can’t lose with him. Even if the film is a dud he’s always good.

Load away! I will look out for those ones.

One final film. Billy Budd. Even though Ryan doesn’t do the appropriate accent. It works because he is such a strong actor. Always in the moment 100%. There’s a scene between Stamp and him that is just so good. Thanks for the reminder. I’ll have to do a take on that one.

Mine too! Big fan of Ride The High Country as well. I always loved Pat Garrett… but I find it a bit less useful as time goes by. Still great though.

‘High Country’ is a must just to see where Sam started. I have a take on ‘Pat’ coming up. (One Eyed Jacks is on deck. I have a few stock piled) I really miss Sam type movies. Only he could make them. They got messy but still worth a watch.

Totally agree. Saw Bring Me The Head of Alfredo Garcia recently and thoroughly enjoyed it. Very quirky.

I could talk Sam all day. Warren Oates was one of his go to guys. I love how Warrens white suit got dirtier and dirtier. Who wears a white suit in Mexico? Lounge singer in a cantina. Love it. Sam was a Mexico guy.

I did a take on the last scene from ‘High Country’ . CB is a sucker for those endings.
